Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Next 3 months are going to be interesting

Employees in France will receive another Voluntary Separation Program, and Germany is likely to have this option as well. Maverick testing for CSG is nearly complete and is expected to wrap up by November or before the holiday season. The new CSG system is scheduled to go live in February.

This transition may lead to significant system instability and a surge in escalations. Concurrently, a substantial portion of the Workforce Reduction will be executed. All in all, the next three months promise to be dynamic and eventful.

@qn we're basically creating one very large single point of failure. What could possibly go wrong?

EMC did that with Propel years ago and it was a disaster.

@n0 That's 100% what I'm expecting. I don't think people fully grasp how much of what exists, systems wise, is going away in February, all at the same time. I've never seen such a huge transition of 100's of systems to a single entity all at the same time. I'm fully expecting a lot of operations to come to a complete standstill in February. Grab the popcorn.

@jf Try telling it to suggest calling some number in India too! "We are sorry you are having issues with your computer. Let's start by factory resetting your computer so we can narrow down your issue. If we can't figure it out then, if you call 91-11-23012312 for our expert team of PC repair technicians! Can I help you with anything further?"

@gn You go right ahead! I happen to love my job and enjoy my salary... which pays my bills. You must be a liberal because, protesting doesn't actually work lol. Let me guess, you had a "NO KINGS" sign standing on the street or in front of a capitol, screaming to people who dgaf.

Realistically speaking, a walk out for Dell would be a godsend. They'd have reason to fire hundreds, or thousands of goofballs for "walking out" and idk... not doing their job?

@fh I 100% agree with this. Dell is locking themselves + 200 or so applications into ONE vendor. Not a smart move impo but hey, what do i care? It'll make some things simpler but what if (when) the entire C** fails or has an issue at some point? Quite literally the ENTIRE company will be blind and no work can be done until it's fixed. On premise infrastructure is IMPO, always the safest route because we OWN it and can fix it, rather than rely on a 3rd party company to do so. Minus networking equipment of course... because Dell servers/switches/routers are all dog water and even Dell doesn't use their own equipment lol.

In a way, the whole project is only securing my job so i can't complain too much.

@gn I don't know about a walkout, but there are things we can do. My entire team is deliberately feeding the AI with bad info to hopefully ensure it fails spectacularly. The AI is currently recommending factory resets as a solution for simple part failures so it appears our efforts are working.

Dell can’t manage far simpler projects. There’s zero chance that Project Maverick isn’t a disaster.

@a4 from AI to show you how you will be replaced by AI:

Project Maverick is Dell Technologies’ covert initiative to overhaul its internal systems for an AI-first future, aiming to streamline operations, cut costs, and boost innovation.
Launched in late 2024, Project Maverick is not about flashy new products—it’s a sweeping modernization of Dell’s internal infrastructure. Here's what’s emerging from behind the curtain:
🔍 Core Objectives

  • AI Integration: Dell is reengineering its systems to be AI-operable, eliminating manual processes and enabling smarter automation across departments.
  • Legacy System Overhaul: Thousands of outdated applications, servers, and databases are being consolidated into a unified platform.
  • Cloud Migration: A major push toward cloud-based operations is central to the plan, improving scalability and data accessibility.
  • Cost Reduction: Internal projections suggest potential savings of up to 20% through operational efficiencies.
    🕵️‍♂️ Secrecy and NDAs
  • The project is so secretive that most Dell employees aren’t allowed to mention it. Those involved have signed NDAs with explicit instructions not to use the name “Project Maverick” in communications.
  • Internal documents obtained by Business Insider describe the initiative as “critical” to Dell’s long-term success.
    ⚙️ Cultural and Workforce Impact
  • Dell is reportedly facing internal resistance, especially from teams accustomed to legacy systems.
  • Some sources suggest the initiative is tied to workforce reductions, with over 25,000 layoffs already linked to the shift toward AI-driven operations.
  • Roles like Inside Sales Representatives (ISRs) may be phased out as automation takes over routine tasks.
    🧠 Strategic Implications
  • This isn’t just a tech upgrade—it’s a full-scale transformation of how Dell operates, positioning the company as a leader in enterprise AI infrastructure.
  • By standardizing tools and data systems, Dell aims to improve decision-making, reduce errors, and accelerate innovation cycles.

They push everyone to use AI, train the AI, and then replace you with AI. It will be interesting to see what happens in the future. I think there will be a lot of joblessness, unfortunately.

@e7
it's much simpler: where the labour market is more free and flexible, they don't give a damn and just fire people.
Where laws are in the way, or making things too complex or expensive, they play the VSP card.

@a6 lol i just read this article that I had no idea existed - THANKS! - and those employees who broke NDA are so dead wrong. There is absolutely NO way it will roll out into production by Feb 2026. Literally zero possible way. The project did not start in November of 2024. It started in September of 2024. They are far from done with the testing phase and realistically are not going to be done until I'd say, July at the earliest... IMPO. My role in this is pretty significant and there just is no way it'll be roled out/in production in Feb. lol

That aside, it's interesting that the employees who snitched are all 10+ year dell employees lol. My guess is th3ey are on their way out and said "f it" and told all about the project. Hopefully they don't get caught because that'd be an easy fire, and possible lawsuits against them...

LOL Maverick is NOWHERE near to being done with testing lmfao. That entire project is a massive cluster and I'm honestly tired of it. There are far too many people involved and most of the project "leaders" have no clue what to do, what is needed or why it's needed. I would know as I'm heavily involved in this wonderful clusterF of a project lol.

It's taken over a year to get where they are at now - which is far but also not as far as they should be... - it'll take another year at least for it to be truly rolled into production.

The entire project is going to affect certain orgs much more than others but ultimately, I don't think it'll affect as many people as those on here like to think.

When has that ever stopped Dell?

ISG NorAm, a few months back asked about a VSP. Told by the GM that it won't be happening as they don't want to "reward" people for leaving.

Also, there's no hope for Maverick going smoothly. D365 has been a disaster since go live.

The Dell way is completey sc--wed up in comparison to the way EMC used to operate.
