Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Nike will move out of Oregon within 5 years

When PK passes, this business will move out of Oregon, every single study has shown so. Keep their "AWESOME" campus for necessary departments that need high visibility to stay cool. Ditch all the WA County Warehouses they branded, relocate options for employees. No Fortune 500 business without the anchor of PK will stay. There is a reason they've built good relationships for expansion in business-friendly states....any business owner understands this. Nike owes Oregon nothing at this point.

@kx Yes, the reason to move away from the name WHQ is because ITC will eventually be the new HQ (whether or not it's WHQ).

@m3 my opinion of PK aside or Nike aside, why wouldn’t the campus be named after him? He founded the company. It’s HIS company, and regardless of what’s going on now, anyone who had a job, has a job, or will have a job at Nike, it’s because of him first. The whole campus, every building, and every conference room could be named after him for all I care.

@kx No, Knight is just really that vain. The board suggested that they should name a building after him, and he was like, why not the entire campus, and of course all the yes men went with it because they have no spines

Surely, there had to be add'l reasons to move away from the name "WHQ" besides just giving a gift to the founder.

That's not Circa 2020, lol. The big O has always been the Nike pipeline.

@g7 as someone who doesn't belong to the groups you mentioned (except for DEI as a white woman, so I'll exclude that) I'd argue they hire a lot from OR/Ducks/Beavers exactly because not many people would move to OR for a job. I did as a stepping stone and got out once I was ready for the next thing. I had so many ETW engineers on my team that we were trying to turn into FTEs and had headcount for, yet they wouldn't do it because they didn't want to move to OR. Of course networking and selection bias plays a big role in interviewing/hiring (as it does everywhere) but at the same time I wouldn't be surprised if the top applicants Nike gets for FTE positions are indeed from the groups you mentioned. And that's ok.

@fy Loaded with OR, nk only hires dei, ducks or beavers circa 2020 reorg.

@OP that is little far fetched but if that happens, then I will say "Good Riddance".

But if board & upper management decide to move, that will be Nike's bone head moves in the line of MP eliminating independent dealers, JD declaring going direct.
Oregon is heart and soul of the company.

What talent does Frisco have that ITC doesn't?

@bv+1ks0kd5ke , just a friendly reminder, if and when NIKE moves the headquarters to Frisco Texas, the Beaverton Oregon employees will NOT be moving. NO transfers! In my very humble opinion, the best idea would be to recruit and hire from the massive existing pool of top talent in Frisco Texas.

Amazon and Starbucks have opened HQ2 in Virginia and TN.
Oracle, Tesla are moving to TX.
Nike will have to do something similar if they want to be successful.
Liberals have destroyed west coast states.

@bd I was. Oregon is in a completely different political climate than 20 years ago. Not even the Nepo Nike’s are staying.

Good for the employees also, we will be saved of 10% income tax that we pay to this sh---y communist government in Oregon.

PK keeps trying to fund a Republican Governor because he knows the future of Nike in Oregon requires it. Some polls are showing Chris Dudley might be the one to do it!

OP, you must not have been around when this idea was seriously considered back in 2006. The idea was to move Nike HQ to Chicago. Lots of discussions were had. I know because I was involved in some of those discussions.

The long and short of it? Nike isn’t moving out of Oregon. Ever. Despite those non-existent “studies” you pulled out of…nowhere.

@a4 not compared to the revenue they will save in a quick amount of time. Those buildings are just for branding.
