AT&T commits to ending DEI programs

In an FCC filing, the U.S. wireless carrier said, “The legal landscape governing diversity, equity, and inclusion (“DEI”) policies and programs has changed. We have closely followed the recent Executive Orders, Supreme Court rulings, and guidance issued by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and have adjusted our employment and business practices to ensure that they comply with all applicable laws and related requirements, including ending DEI-related policies as described below, not just in name but in substance.”

@fv "AT&T wants the FCC to believe they've changed their stripes. No harm, no foul. Let's just start with a clean slate and leave the unearned spoils of discrimination in place and pretend people weren't harmed in the process. A lot of other criminals would love a deal like that."

ATT is a spineless virtue signaling windsock. Customers, employees and the US government should all beware. Deception runs deep.

Will they retroactively restore the opportunities taken from the most qualified to meet DEI goals? The damage is done, and the incompetent are in place.

@g4
Very true. I've never met anyone who was passed over because of anything remotely related to DEI. The fastest way to shut them down is to ask if they even applied.

@g8 " I mean really read "

Good advice since it appears you've targeted both a poster who is clearly anti-DEI and another who is defending DEI initiatives.

@g4 and @f7 - hey guys, serious question for you two (or maybe you’re the same poster):

How do you think your ignorance was formed? Have you even considered or pondered the origin of it? It certainly has my attention. And is it connected to hate / lack of empathy or are they mutually exclusive?

Is it by choice / free will or do you think it’s innate either by DNA / Natural Order or the way God made you (if you’re a believer or not)?

For what it’s worth, I believe your virus of ignorance is a curable one and you don’t even need a little jab jab in your arm. Just start with opening up your mind a bit and read. I mean really read the history of how things were and still are today. I believe things are getting better, albeit with setbacks, so it needs your help.

Take your time and think about this. It should take a while as this is both a simple and complex question.

"leave the unearned spoils of discrimination in place and pretend people weren't harmed"

Who was harmed? A small number of people get an opportunity that was not open to you and you are bitter about it?

@f7 you are incorrect on so many levels - I guess you decided against reading and educating yourself a bit.

Wondering how you typed your reply? Did you have to take your hood off?

DEI is so embeded in this comany it will be inposible to abolish it. Most of the DEI hires are now in leadership rolls ETC ETC ETC and they will fight tooth and nail to do absaloutly nothing but collect a paycheck.

Another spin on the truth by AT&T. Will they undo the damage? Nope. AT&T doesn't even need a shadow DEI program. Every position feasible has been filled with a DEI awardee who will negatively influence the employee base for the next 20 years, if not longer. AT&T wants the FCC to believe they've changed their stripes. No harm, no foul. Let's just start with a clean slate and leave the unearned spoils of discrimination in place and pretend people weren't harmed in the process. A lot of other criminals would love a deal like that.

Except what they're saying doesn't align with what they're doing. In our group, the only promotions/progressions in the last 18 months have gone to people who tick a box. Being white and over 40 automatically disqualifies you.

@dy You clearly don’t work with many Indians and Asians. If it isn’t written in a manual in front of them, they don’t do it. There is no thinking outside of the box.

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."

Martin Luther King, Jr.

I dont have a chance to say this much...but good job AT&T.

Good job getting rid of this DEI trash. Root out this unnecessary institutional racism, forced division and identity-driven ragebait. Enough has been enough. We can do much better than this DEI nonsense that's been shoehorned into large companies by bad actors who prey on hate and division.

Let's get back to MLK's vision.
