Thread regarding USAA layoffs

We need to start ignoring bad actors here

This site was once a community and source of knowledge. It’s in a tailspin of conspiracy theories.

  • When someone makes a reference to an exec from 3 years ago, and is no longer here. Ignore them.

  • When someone makes an outrageous claim like “30% of us will be laid off” - do the math. That would be the largest layoff in USAA history times 3. That’d be nearly 11,000 employees to be laid off this year. They have no details. No sources. Just vague fear and round numbers. Ignore them.

  • When someone is posting about a single person every week. Ignore them. That’s an unhinged person.

  • We need to collectively stfu about RTO. There’s quite literally nothing we can do about it. The company has moved on. Society has moved on. Every other company has moved on.

The reason the bank was 'profitable' in 2025 was because a certain new exec pushed to have all fraud on the books written off at the end of 2024. A colleague joked how it was another situation where they moved things around and then toasted each other for being brilliant masters of industry.

@g0 again bad actors. Conspiracy theories that HR is here planting stories. This is what I’m talking about.

I agree with all of that, but the only thing I'll comment on is that the people on my team come in for 30 minutes and leave. Weeks go by and we don't see each other. And that's EVP and down. I would much rather they require teams to come in for 8 hours days for 2-3 days a week than 30 minute days. Or have like 30 core weeks where teams have to do full in office days and let us work from home on other weeks. Anyhow, just my two cents. I would like my time in the office to be useful rather than just checking a box

And this is the problem with our employees. “Oh I agree with everything, but item number 5, let me go on a long rant about this”.

Yes this is exactly who we need to ignore. You RTO oxygen su-king employees.

100% wrong on RTO, that should always be a discussion, especially when the company keeps hiring new executives to be remote, then flying them in on company money (more like the members money) to sit around and tour the home office for 4 days.

You want RTO talk to stop, then make it equal all around, EMG & above who are remote have 6 months to decide if they’re going to relocate within 60 miles of any office office of their choice, if not, here’s your severance.

@e0 it’s not a conversation it one side has made up their mind and moved on and your complaining to forums that 1) agree 2) have zero impact on that change.

You had me until that bit about RTO. If they have even one meeting via zoom then RTO should be off the table. EMG remote? Make their as--s move to an office. Don’t like it? Tough sh-t. Give them the same line as what we were force fed.

As long as EMG continue to be remote, the RTO conversation will continue to happen.

Hey I hate that we lost the RTO fight too. But let’s face it. We lost. 98% of the country lost. So when we keep anchoring back to this we lose credibility on all of our other issues.

I agree with most of these ideas, but @ab is correct. RTO is absolutely something people should keep talking about. The only way things change is if people put pressure on - rolling over belly up fixes nothing.

What post on this site mentioned a 30% cut in workforce? It’s no secret that bank needs to reduce headcount 10% by end of year, the main reason the bank was profitable in 2025 was due to the reduction in its workforce.

I will never stop talking about RTO.

I will never forget what we lost.

I will be forever resentful of having to come in to sit on zoom all day with people around the country.

I will not stop posting about it until the day I retire.

Amen. This is a good post. We agree. When some posts about getting rid of people & teams, & what not, ignore them. They are vicious, plagued & cancerous people. Ignore them.
