@fv sorry for your loss, but on the other hand you are now free to start build in a constructive way and to be up to date with your skills in career path. The longer you stay there, the more your skills are covered with a dust.

@OP
You will be lucky if you will get laid off otherwise you will be wasting your time unless you are used to of exploitation, humiliation and enjoy working under paid 😉

@OP I've been through this recently, Australia too. So sorry to hear you've got the calendar invite. It's rough.
They will pay you holiday pay, and long service leave if you have any. Not sick pay.
They will cut you from Slack that day, but you keep email and VPN into some internal sites, others are blocked.

Do not connect your laptop to network till you finish backing up.

Save all needed files from your laptop and important contacts. About sick leaves - in some countries the sick leave is paid, so check for Australia. Good luck and let us know the result of this meeting.

Contact information from employees who can provide references, any certifications and personal files, and a screenshot of the organizational chart is also a good idea.

Good luck! Sorry it su-k I have been there.

Sick leaves are not paid in any country. Which division are you in?

If you have any personal files on your laptop transfer them to a non-encrypted storage device ASAP. At least in the U.S. all access to corporate systems were cut within minutes of the notification and our laptops remotely locked. Also if there are any specific contacts you want to make sure you have their information for, grab those immediately as well.

Other than that I would not do anything drastic until you get the talk -- it is possible that you are not being laid off or that there is a significant time before you stop working. Not how it played out in the U.S., but Australia may be different. Also there were meetings with employees who were not let go as well to advise them of various things. While -- sadly -- it probably is "the discussion" wait for the details before you take other steps (other than the personal files noted above).
