Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Where's Pontiac GPS at on this one?

Shouldn't their super sophisticated automated tests have caught this? I guess they're too busy playing politics to preserve their easy jobs of maintenance and support. There's a lot of money behind this failure.

"Imagine producing an engine so poor that it's led to over 600,000 vehicles being recalled and has been responsible for a dozen crashes and injuries, and you'll be in GM's shoes."

Class action doesn't mean a whole lot. It's just some a-hole lawyers looking for some extra dough. To be fair, I trust GM upper brass more than I trust lawyers.
Unless the NHTSA or DOJ gets involved, these things mean nothing.

We all know no one cares about quality or development anymore in the race to the bottom. There is a reason PPO was gutted and development halted. They got sick of people finding issues they needed to fix because it was documented. Now they can just ship it to the customer and test "virtually". Leaving out of touch b**mers in charge of new tech and development was a BAD idea.

@fh
That may be true but...
Forecast: More threats, more layoffs. More doing more with less. Tighter schedules, more responsibilities, longer hours, more stress. That will fix it!

From the article:

  • The plaintiff further alleges that GM was aware of these issues for several years and either neglected them or downplayed them.*

That was a management decision.

An unethical one.

Sounds like some engineers are going to be at the bottom of the stack rank.

Managers and executives who decided that QA was unnecessary will get their generous bonuses for saving money.

Don't worry, a nostalgic TV ad fixed it. Sit back and collect dividends.
This is how we think profits.
