Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

26th March

Is anyone able to clarify what to expect on the 26th. Is this just Europe, Middle East, Asia (EMEA) or is this also in the states? Is it an offer of a VSP or a RIF? The posts have been vague.

@a9 VBG global wireline customers and revenue is not really a concern. They cant find a buyer for APAC / EMEA. Schulman blocked EMEA cap ex associated with routine maintenance / EOL gear replacement. So they are now on the clock.

they are beginning a controlled shut down which will take several years if buyer does not emerge. These regions lose money on net every year. The jig is up.

@ez are you the original Op? Regardless, the question the Op asks is if it is US or EMEA so this topic could be either/both.

So you be clear, so you have knowledge that it is only EMEA being rumoured for Mar 26th? I think it is not possible that it is Emea as each country are different but most require consultation periods that take us way beyond March. And so, it is reasonable to conclude that any action on March 26th can only be USA

@ey please be specific in your posts. this thread is about EMEA. are you speaking specifically about the US or specifically about EMEA?

What I’ve heard. Decent sources.

March 26th is a speculative date. What is confirmed is that end of March lists are being prepared and submitted. No one knows the exact numbers, but 15k is likely based on a circulated target.

The last RIF was focused on doing “right” by the “best/better” employees who were being targeted mainly because their salaries were high for their band. This was often because their performance was solid and they had received raises over time. The idea was to give them a “good” package and let them go with a head start on the job market.

The next one, which could be March 26th, is not expected to be as kind. If you were wondering why a lazy worker got spared in your department while a high performer was let go, the thinking is they were saving them for this round. I hope that’s true. We kept a lot of deadweight and cut high performers in the last round. I don’t think anyone would miss the deadweight leaving, especially after seeing many of the best IC workers get cut.

@b9 not band specific. Scale demanded a broader and deeper look hence no band is filtered out

@b2 are you in US?

Yes be ready and get all your ducks in a row. Dan is serious that by the time he is done no one should be employed by VZ except AI agents.

@ab Do you know if this RIF is targeting certain areas? Our boss sent out an invite for the same day for a meeting with the whole team (which we almost never do). So alarm bells just went off for me.

That is a US date.

EMEA soft notifications started a bit earlier due to EU laws but mark your calendar for March 26th if you are in the US.

It is RIF and not a VSP as rumored. Haven’t confirmed but there was a discussion of reduced package from the past.

Good luck to all of us. Basking Ridge office already feels like an empty prison.

@a4 not a chance in isolation but you have to consider the big A-ended accounts (I.e. Deals won and managed from the US) that wouldn't be won if Verizon didn't offer a global solution.

So US Embassies say, they'd not go with VZ if they couldn't service all/most of the embassies globally.

That's why it's such a hard divorce!

somethign VERY important to keep in mind when checking in on this site- there are very sad lonely people who post nonsense on here becuase just the thought of the anxiety they are causing gives something akin to joy( or at lest the closest thing they can get to it). Let's all think about just what kind of person would spend any time at all doing something like this. This thought gives me gratitude, becuase whatever is going on in my life it NEVER gets as bad as that.

that said, generally when soemthing real is coming down the pike we start seeing much more specific info, and we hear it from many different people. It is different then this noisy nonsense

@OP hope you are wrong being exclusively the US only!!!

Does EMEA contribute positively to Verizon's bottom line in a positive manner??

@OP looking at when the other OP posted they were clearly in the US. Just that EMEA woke up first and started talking about their region.

It also appears OP came back on and said their rumour was exclusively for the US.

So I have taken it that March 26th is a [rumoured] time line for more "action" in US only. EMEA will be on a different time line, likely each country having a different one
