Just a word if warning:

Do not divulge too much personal information to your managers or H.R.

ITS NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS AND CAN BE USED AGAINST YOU. IF THEY PRETEND TO CARE, THEY DONT!!

Info about your marriage, doctor visits/health problems, children, family members. Be very careful who you talk to and document or secretly record any strange questions you may be asked, especially from Human Resources or the store manager.

And remember if something or some interaction with managers or Human Resources seems weird or a bit “off”, It’s because it is.

@t4. All corporate and store bereavement pay should be for immediate family members only. If you were incorrectly paid bereavement pay for someone who is not an immediate family memeber by a Human Resources lead who is ultimately responsible for entering that in the computer, or if you are a Human Resources lead or manager entering that in yourself, you could be terminated for that, especially if corporate is seeing a pattern of absenteeism and your bereavement pay was at a blackout period or high requested holiday week. You may have gotten away with it once, but it’s something corporate is watching closely.

@t4--that's if your husband/wife or child or parent dies that LIVES with you and that you are paying for a funeral. A brother-in-law does not count you di-khead.

@fd did you know that you get grievance pay for certain members of your family who pass away lol. I got a check for about 1500 when I did not work my full amount of time. No PTO used, either. So, maybe, if they ask about a funeral- you might want to be a little more forthright.

if someone who you are not truly friends with starts to show interest in your personal life and is asking questions and they are a manager or HR that is a red flag.

@OP yes, it is actually illegal for employers to ask those kinds of personal questions because they are not job related. Exceptions would be if you are applying for health related disability benefits. We have a legal right to say it’s none of their business.

<<<i agree, when my brother-in-law passed, we had to go to Texas, my store manager (i'm a sales team manager) was overly concerned with his passing and wanted to send flowers to his wife (?!?!????) she never met him, didn't know his name, and had no clue who his wife was) i said that's ok, they don't expect flowers, she was being nosey trying to see if i was acutally going to a funeral or lying, it was obvious.
