Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Did your org become a mess after layoff too ?

Our org is now a complete mess , and the workload is becoming insane, they are running everywhere without a clear plan and throw it all on IC workers , what about you how is it going ?

My org was a giant mess before the RIF and now it's even worse. People are getting shuffled around even weeks later. New teammates are introduced and then a week later they've been moved to a different team. A project is high priorty one day and then nobody ever mentions it again. VPs are vibe coding things that AI tells them works when it actually doesn't, and then asking why it's taking engineers who are building software that actually functions why it takes so long. Nobody knows who owns what and there are 500 people who are all trying to be the AI expert on the team because that's the only wya to keep your job now.

NSGBU has been a disaster since Nov 2024 when they pulled the plan that was supposed to be the next shiny thing, that had been resourced to the gills, hyped in marketing, teased at conferences. People were twiddling their thumbs waiting for someone to decide what the business was supposed to do next instead. Suiteworld was the most shambolic version of itself from behind the scenes. Extreme levels of vaporware being showed off like it was about to be shipped. No direction turned to 100 directions, then after suite world, no direction again. Then the layoff came in August/Sept 2025, no one was surprised given the thumb twiddling. Somehow I survived. I played a lot of chess, made some side money day trading, put some videos on the background to stay active on slack. Still nothing to do. April '26 round of layoffs, thinking I'm gone for sure. Nope. Still nothing to do, nothing to do.

I thought it was just me. Good to know I’m not alone.

I like using AI for work, it truly is amazing. I don’t have to spend pointless time in one-off jobs I don’t care about and it helps me code better.

But I’m unsure where the org is headed. There’s no clear direction or stated goals. My manager also doesn’t know the answers to my questions; I sometimes feel bad for him.

Some of the managers in my org are open-minded, but my immediate manager got insecure and excludes us from important meetings as he wants to be the middleman - can’t blame him, I may have done the same if I were in his spot.

In a soup of confusion.

@f4 Pointless really. Compensation and reward is completely constantly mentioned in the survey. The org simply ignore it and triumphantly declare yet another employee development project.

Meanwhile, do more for less.

@ek at this point the "how and why" doesn't really matter and asking you management chain to explain this isn't going to get you very far. Chances are they are asking the same questions. Asking for direction going forward is completely valid and they should have an answer for that since it is their job.

If you are trying to figure out someone else's code drop it into AI and ask it to document what the code does. You will probably get some useful responses to help you solve your puzzles.

@ag I had asked our 'leadership' if they were going to address the elephant in the room and at least give us some clarity on how and why this had happened and plans for the future. Ignored, sigh... Morale for those of us left is horrible, we are being asked to figure out things that were recently put in place (security, etc) and we have no clue, the techs that were on the project are GONE. What kind of id--t(s) runs a company this way? I can only imagine the loss of productivity and pride in your job are just out the window. Can you RIF me next please fat hobbit looking IT VP Christine?
Please,,,

Worked in CEGBU. It’s been a mess for like a decade and the mgmt totally incompetent p*gs.

The mess in my org was always independent of layoffs. It was really frustrating to get more and more tasks in the last years and then being rated as „performance could be better”.

Business as usual after the layoffs, no one cares, after I got let go, co-workers who still with the company cannot answer my calls/emails or text. We are disposable and co-workers are not your friends... move on

@b0 "FMW support is a joke" - can you elaborate ? you mean call volume is very low ?

My org wasn’t functional before the layoffs, so it didn’t really change anything.

@ag if you are still adrift after 3 weeks that could be a bad sign. They will probably cut the whole org structure in the next round if it can be nonfunctional for weeks at a time.

I mean we lost multiple levels of management and have no idea who we work for, what our priorities are, etc. so I guess my first question is “what org”. Seems like after three weeks there would be a meeting or announcement or anything. We got rid of so many people that were the only ones who knew their job, no one left knows where the list to layoff came from but it made no sense and left us with giant holes. We literally sacrificed more revenue than salary costs by a lot. This has been the worst and most confusing/defeating three weeks I’ve had in a couple decades.
