Usually it’s the one dreadful day where everyone gets laid off on the same day. However this year (at least for my department) I have noticed with the EDs and MDs that they are being let go here and there. Since January we have had about 5 officers let go.

EDs get treated like everyone else, they just get paid out for their officer title notice requirements.
What makes you think they were let go and didn't just leave on their own after comp?
Senior people are often (but not always) given time to plan their departure. The worker bees just get RIF'd.
