Thread regarding SAP layoffs

The Unfiltered survey has started

The mail from Gina just came in.

I will focus on my team and my manager. I cannot really say much about upper management or board, as I am too new.

But it is a good sign that SAP offers the opportunity to provide feedback. Hopefully people will have lots of good ideas how to improve the company.

@aj This might be the case in your area. In mine, feedback is taken seriously and the next-level leaders try to change to the better. Of course, it is not always in their hands or it does not always work but I can clearly see that the feedback is taken seriously.

@zp I guess it jumped because a lot of disgruntled employees took the offerings in 2023 and could no longer participate.

The same will happen this year. P24 employees are off. In Europe the critics of the board took their cash and left, so the (relatively) happy ones remained and will vote accordingly.

Only one KPI matters to the board in Unfiltered survey : "Employee engagement index".

Why ? Because it's the only KPI displayed in financial results. DA must even think about this KPI when he brushes his teeth, once a quarter.

Despite company's poor governance & layoffs, engagement jumped from 74% to 78% lately. It looks like people trust the company more than before... Or Index calculation formula changed ?

The surveys are a tick box exercise to try and garner some kind of "great places to work" award. They are meaningless and manipulated. My manager has consistently received negative feedback and scored poorly on all surveys - zero consequences, and he has been around for 20+ years.

@ez This is nothing more than a HR stunt it will have zero effect on the number of people laid off, they announced 1-2% annually so that's that.

Will the number of people laid off be reduced if we all give positive feedback about the board?

If so it would be worth a try. Even if we think differently in private.

Does the survey approach feel cultish to anyone else? They repeat "Let your voice he heard" like it's some kind of spiritual mantra and then weak willed colleagues act like they are accomplishing something by taking it. I won't miss taking money from this company when they finally lay me off. Working with some of you has been a strange experience. You act like you're from another planet and SAP is teaching you how to pretend to be human.

@ar because it’s not always voluntary.

Some teams set "targets" to achieve higher participation rates and scores. When participation rates or manager scores are low, there tends to be extensive discussion and speculation about who might not have submitted their results. Occasionally, employees suspected of this are penalized during feedback and salary reviews. This issue is prevalent in the Signavio teams in India and the Czech Republic. Managers are eager to secure good scores to earn trips to Berlin for offsite meetings. Consequently, team members find themselves competing against one another to get better performance management feedback as it depends less on their goals and more on how good the feedback the team gave to their manager. Managers with lower scores are moved to smaller teams (of less than 7 reports) so their scores are not shared or part of the overall and this keeps bad managers safe. At other times, managers with lower scores move to another team or a position with zero reports for a year before moving into a management role again but with another team.

In some areas like Signavio, one cannot simply neglect this survey because your performance management feedback and salary cycle depends on it.

What I don't understand is so much fuss about a survey where "participation is voluntary"? It's a total marketing strategy so the only sell the positive and ignore the negative. There should be no consequences whether you answer or not
