@ha Minnesota is an "at will" state. She doesn't have any grounds for a suit. They may have given her a "go fu-k off now" package anyway, but the law isn't her friend on this.

I am sure UHG will settle out of court. Last thing they want is to to women to sue and have a public trail in the media for months. However not sure how she will find work in the future.

@ch Sure that is her opinion and nobody is stopping her from saying it. Just saying there are consequences lol.

Actually, you got that the wrong way around regarding the general direction of ill will towards others - open your eyes, confirmation bias is a thing.

Fake? Occam's razor and common sense would like to have a word, lulz.

Play stupid games. Win stupid prizes. I'm surprised but glad United sent her packing, if that's what happened.

Adult daycare laptop jobs have a tendency to bring really substandard people into any organization.

"Social media manager," good godda-n.

She shouldn’t have been fired. She stated her opinion. I 100% think that “attempt” was fake. This BS has to stop. The right (The President) wishes death on the left all the time and no one loses a job.

Such a d-mb thing for the employee to do. Especially after the CEO of UHC was brutally mu---red.

@ah incorrect. Employers have broad latitude in getting rid of employees who may cause reputational damage by association, even when "off the clock", especially ones who are largely public-facing for their company, like this so-called influencer or social media manager. No criminal charge, no jailtime, she just lost her job. She'll live.

@ah That’s sadly not how it works as we are private sector, not public sector employees. You can agree or disagree with it, but your employment is generally considered “at will” and can be ended due to any number of reasons, including things that may cause blow back to a company, even when done on your own free time. I’m not HC, but I have studied 1A and it’s not illegal or considered censorship.

@an okay HR lol I’m not going to let them threaten me into not using my birth right of freedom of speech. An employment lawyer would agree.

Best to make social media accounts anonymous. You put your name out there you put yourself at risk. Corporations monitor your activity.

"Freedom of speech is not freedom of consequences"
Actually it is. Retaliation for speaking one's mind is an impingement on freedom of speech. If this comment was posted using employer resources or on company time, the the employer has a legitimate reason for terminating her. If not, then where does the employer end and employee begin? Notice I said employee not 'human capital'. BTW, how do we know who really made this decision? If you still think there's a strong delineation between gov't and private industry, then you're really living in LaLa Land.

The best part is that she was the social media manager...and was fired for using social media. She knew better and deserved it. What a doorknob.

@ab Freedom of speech is not freedom of consequences. She’s not getting arrested for the video, so her First Amendment right is still being protected. It doesn’t protect you from public criticism or job loss.

The freedom of speech as protected under the constitution is dead. I can’t wait for all the republicans who are gonna be fired under the next democratic president, and see how may boomers cry about it. ❄️
