Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

LAYOFF DATA BREAKDOWN

For those who have already taken AEOI, EOI, or been laid off, I understand that you receive a list showing some demographic info about those who have left CVX.

I’m curious if that info show the location of the employees. Especially for those who were laid off, I would love to see the breakdown by San Ramon vs. Houston. I am starting to think that San Ramon employees have been unfairly targeted for layoff (so, given similar candidates, the Houston employee is the one selected).

Colleges aren't a protected class either. Hope we can empty some trash from the maroon polo on Fridays team.

I know 3 people with high PSG's that have their offices in the directory with Hou building locations and they are living in California and another in a different state. The relocations are being carefully orchestrated and not everyone will be moving to Houston even though the company line is centralization of US workforce to Houston.

@es I do. Anyone who WANTED to move to Houston already did so in the mid to late 2010s. The rest are too entrenched in the Bay Area to upend their lives only to possibly get laid off in 2026 or later. There were so many folks already in Houston who got laid off like me so the idea that we had an advantage is ludicrous.

@bs how do you know the SR employees won’t move to Houston? Is it an assumption or you know them all personally?

They were transparent from the beginning that preference would be given to Houston candidates

Prior to leaving in July, I took a look at that PDF that was sent out who got to keep jobs. I was actually stunned at how many folks in San Ramon got jobs, including a couple of the jobs that I applied for in the event and the PDC as I live in Houston.

The ideal that if you lived in Houston that you had a better chance of getting a position than folks in San Ramon is bullsh-t.

The other thing I noticed about the list is that all the folks in San Ramon that got positions, none of them are gonna move to Houston.

Location is not a protected class. All else equal, the person already in Houston is (i) likely to have a stronger network in the future org design, (ii) expressed greater awareness of corporate trajectory, and (iii) expressed a preference for stronger ties to the O&G industry.

These are all positives. You want connected, self aware, invested people to staff your org.

Most Californians were happy to go as they have no interest in moving to The Swamp. Plus most were older with working spouses and seven figure home equity.

Curious as well. However, the data only shows position title, psg , and employee age

I suspect the same. It certainly must be true they want to minimize San Ramon presence in order to move less employees to Houston.
