Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Self inflation on LinkedIn

I keep seeing some certain white dudes who never rose above Sr. Director at Nike (or anywhere!) promote themselves on LinkedIn as having been a Vice-President. Nothing says executive presence like a title from the imagination department. Anyone else see this out there??? WTF???

@q8: I get that. I’m talking about a specific Director who made it to a Sr. Director role, was never laid off and then left of their own accord. I think it is ann ego driven vibe along the lines of, “I was passed over and I’m claiming that title anyway because that’s who I am.”

Easiest job on the planet. Do nothing and take credit for everything

I would question anyone who listed themselves as Sr. Director or above at Nike. They get hired because of their connections and not what they've actually delivered.

@er attacking one race/gender for something that isn't even unique to that group is just being a racist a--hole

Can confirm, this exists across gender and race on LI and many other similar boards

Calling out a pattern of white dudes lying about their achievements is not an obsession. I’d call it basic quality control. What’s your obsession with defending someone who is lying about their work history? Guilty conscience anyone?? LOL

@OP what’s with the obsession over color/gender?

Seen it done regardless of skin color or gender.

What do you expect when every single manager has been promoted internally from non management roles with zero formal training? Nothing but management transitioned straight into leadership as if it’s the natural order of things. No surprise that same delusional sense of greatness carries out into the market.

plus a bunch of posts from SLT members giving talks at schools recently - looking at EH, VA, and Converse AC. What did you educate these young minds on? Only expertise is how to execute layoffs and tank a stock price…

Self inflation is a currency at Nike, and not unique to Linkedin. Thats why you have a bunch of people that talk a lot about doing things, while at the same time doing none of those things. That’s why these people are going to have a rude awakening when they go back into the real world and they have to produce something measured against actual KPIs.

This happens at every level on LinkedIn. Titles like “Head of ___” are often overused and can make roles sound bigger than they are. Head of marketing? Probably not. Head of a small team within marketing? Sure. If you’re a manager, it’s okay to just call yourself a manager.
