Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Any guesses who’s going to get hit the most?

IT is a given. Easiest to offshore. They’ll probably go after the hardworking, skilled, and experienced people too. Wouldn’t want efficiency or knowledge getting in the way.

ITLT have had meetings with managed services providers PwC, Tata, Accenture and Infosys.
McKinsey is «helping» them with sourcing RFP’s. Who knows what the end result will be, however there is an IT townhall dedicated to CEP next Thursday.. will they be brave enough to actually share some useful information?

@en aa here. RL said no offshoring while he's here. He won't be around long, sure, but the company isn't offshoring right now. If you want to try to read between lines that aren't there, that's on you. Just try to do it without spreading rumors please.

The usual MO is to cut out most of the not so great or not liked people and then pile the extra work onto their better employees with the expectation that most of those guys won't bail and find new jobs.

For whatever reason when people get comfortable they'll let companies sh-t on them for a really long time before they bail.

@aa don’t be so naive man. You know those town halls shouldn’t be taken too literally right? They said layoffs to 2027. You honestly don’t think it’s not going to be indefinite? It has for the last 20 years. They feed you that to let you cling on to that false hope. You’ll still need to be productive while you wait your turn. Obviously.

Boeing paid $9 an hour to Indian engineers to build the 737 Max software. I'm sure we can find similarly skilled employees from India to do our work with equal success.

Interesting, and not in a good way, that our CIO was brought in from flippin’ Staples. The BU asset hierarchy probably needs to happen, lots of AMs and staff analyzing everything to the nth degree. Finance, I feel a bit sorry for since it was assumed (based on the BS that consultants sold) that nxtgen was going to automate work/faster/less HC etc. It was more or less a system upgrade, akin to your iPhone update. Now they’re being held to a nearly impossible standard, hence “fast close” that so far hasn’t removed any work, just being told to do it faster.

IT is bringing the offshore, onshore and paying them too much while also sponsoring their visas. Same thing happened to Staples when the CIO was there. She then left when sh-t hit the fan because that is not a viable way to run IT.

BUs will get hit pretty hard as well with a consolidation of the asset hierarchy.

Finance will get hit too otherwise the ERP upgrade was pointless and they have to show something for the hundreds of millions spent on that.

which corporate functions?

Seems like a big disconnect between ELT and people running IT. They are clueless about how business actually works. Word is that IT is being outsourced to the homeland of IT leader which will do nothing but make business more miserable

Corporate functions are a given but money is on BUs being hit with the biggest changes/impact.
