Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

Vertica divesture

Good luck to those moving to RS. Do we know an actual confirmed number of staff who will tupe across and what what relationship to the product ie engineering, support, sales etc?

@a4, in the latest DB-Engines ranking, Vertica is 47th out of 385 databases profiled (down five spots in the past year.) In the relational database category, Vertica is 29th out of 157 (down three spots the past year.) Vertica is not a bad product. The high salaries at OpenText didn’t know what to do with it. Do you remember Mark B. touting Vertica in a new flight tracking capability not long after the acquisition? He looked like an id--t because there were already at least half-dozen apps on the market with that … and with more advanced capabilities … and free, too.

Vertica was a good to great database when it was purchased by OpenText, but then OpenText decided to be OpenText and chased off or laid off a lot of the engineering backbone and marketing engine. They were replaced by people who knew the OpenText way but had no clue what Vertica really was.

How much do you want to bet Vertica jumps at least 10 spots over the next 24 months now that it is now owned by a company that knows what it is doing?

Vertica is a terrible product. It’s deserved to be called “non-core” product. You can argue with me, but please provide market metrics and tell me what’s the rank in the database world.
