Be homest how many of us really want to get RIF we this point? I mean 100% seriously, not just joking around saying it. I do! haven’t yet told my AD, as I’ve seen it make no difference because AD will always pick the low performers over a strong performer that’s asked for it. They do what’s best for them only.

@jq your story implies there are ADs with 20+ people. I have never seen any AD with that many people. I call BS.
@a5 yep. My AD is a huge problem in this area. He has fired or selected for RIF over 10 people in the last 3 years because he didn't like them, or they made him mad, or they would question him at times. I am one of those that he loves because I have accepted being a yes man. But my old coworker who did so much backend work got no credit and got laid off. Most managers don't appreciate true value. It is all about visibility
@hp was her position unique to your team? Was she the only one performing that role? By any chance was she in a one-off building?
Lost a high performer on our team last year. She was told her position was eliminated & it had nothing to do with performance. I was stunned.
"...AD will always pick the low performers over a strong performer that’s asked for it. They do what’s best for them only." - OP
If that's what you believe, then do what's best for you only. Become a low performer and increase your chances for reward.
@eh I have half that amount (similar age) and I’ll make it work! I’d rather live like a pauper than stay at this soul su-king job.
@eb honestly you really are cutting it very low for retirement, is it just you or do you have a spouse? If it is just you you might be ok, but what about health insurance? After taxes that 1.8 will be a lot less. You are going to make it 25 years on that?
Me.. I am 54 right now.. I have 1.8 Million in the 401 (two diff company) I need to make it to Jan 1 where I will then be able to pull from the 401 due to a layoff once I hit the calendar year where I turn 55. My goal is simply to make it to 55 so I can leverage the 401 with no tax 10%. else I have to wait till I am 59 and a half.. My tricky part is health care. Ive been with the company now 28 years and at one time I was proud to say I worked for VZW/VZ Now I hang my head in shame.. And Pretty solid rumors is that all of IT is going to be rebadged this year
@bx what did they say
BS, be honest, you don't want to lose your job, you want to be paid to leave. If you want to leave then leave. You know in the US there is no law that says you get severance. It is not guaranteed. So still want to volunteer? I say, anyone that volunteers to get cut doesn't get severance.
No one needs to show any of you the door, you know where it's at. So step up and just go if you want to. Since OP likes surveys, here is one, how many of you actually will do it? I'm betting 0%. I'm betting 100% of you are full of it.
@OP I have self-nominated to my AD and SD
@bq why would people that would get full severance just walk away. You aré ignorant. People who have been here 20 plus years aren’t just going to walk away!
@OP just leave ,loser. You don’t have to wait
@OP im sure you are a low performer so if you told your boss it might help
@OP do what's best for you.
Low performer?
Make sure u have the next job before dreaming about a RIF?!!! Things are much worst outside. Play smartly!!!
@a8 I’ve known several people ask and they pick others instead of them
Just tell your AD. You'll get the package. We don't want you if you don't want to be here.
@a5 they are doing to rif the weak ones that don’t do their jobs and keep the ones that make them look good by constantly taking on more and more work
AD will pick their friends and su-k ups always. They hate high performers
