Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Start looking for remote jobs

There are many remote jobs available in the market, but you have to compete with visa workers who likely hold two or three jobs. Working five days a week from the office just isn’t worth it. Good luck!

LOL! Hate to break it to you, but I am a now former WF employee who has actually been through today's job climate. You are VERY naive if you think you are going to just pick a FT, well-paying, benefits included, FTE remote position. And just the most simple of points on that statement: Look how many posts on here mention BofA, Citi, Principal, Amazon, Google, etc., that are RECALLING FT remote employees back to office...

The first headache/hurdle you will face is your resume. Oh, cr-p, the format has changed entirely! How much experience to mention? More? Less? Does it say how old I am... Is what I did 14 years ago actually relevant TODAY? Five people say Yes. Six people say no. Detail? No detail? References? No references? Well, some today says that listing references makes you look like a teenager wanting to leave their job at Pizza Hut.

Want to know what you will see if you go into today's job market? You'll wake-up each morning to see relevant postings for your criteria. And then you'll see the "X-X people have submitted for this position". Those are the people who already have their resume and cover letter in on the position. Some are AI-submitted resumes, but they still have an application in before you. Even if you are more qualified, they are sooner in the (virtual) pile to be reviewed. Let's not glaze over the fact that many of the jobs are either not true hiring positions (Google it), or they are positions that are now XX days or even weeks old. I received a direct email from a supposed recruiter for a position that had hired 3 weeks earlier. And I know it had because I had been approached by the legitimate, contracted recruiter about 6 weeks earlier but explained I was not right for the job. In the course of discussing other positions they mentioned (it) had been filled.

If you are cut from WF you will receive membership to LHH for 3 months. They are a job placement and career counseling company. Nice enough people, (damn lucky if you get Gretchen), but it guarantees nothing. What you will encounter is a group of people doing the same as you-waking up every day and starting your grind of emails and postings. And you will soon learn you are just one of many people from WF in the same position. People whom you will be competing against for any local positions that may open.

As for myself, I flipped the coin and decided to return to a role of my past. A role a step down in responsibility and pay, but I have the financial freedom to do so. I work for a company with a great past and growing future. I beat out >45 applicants, 10 of which were chosen for interview.

Don't be flippant about looking for a DECENT job in today's market.

Yes, there are still remote roles out there, but fewer and fewer. Have heard that the job market may pick up in the coming months, so there’s that. I was let go from WF last year and finally found a job a few months ago. Hybrid. Fortunately the office is only a 20-minute drive from the house. Good luck to you all.

My money says you whiney ones will be unhappy anywhere. I hate to tell you but other companies expect you to work, not play with your pets or cart your little brats everywhere 🤣

Wells is or has been very slack for working. I can see why they are ratcheting down, you guys are slackers. All us good ones left already. I know if I see wells on the resume I pass it up because it means cry babies that don’t want to work.

Companies that focus on chase head-count optics they sacrifice autonomy and motivation that propel performance. Going back to the 1980's of work isn't the future, the future of work will reward organizations bold enough to trade suspicion for purpose. I mean its 2025 and they're still sending Lumberg around the corner for TPS reports.

It took me a very long time to find a fully remote position and am making less than half of what I did at WF.
I have heard from a couple of different recruiters that the job market is expected to get better starting Oct/Nov time so there may be a tiny, very minuscule bit of hope.
Don't wish to get displaced in this job market. WF is a soul-su-king evil place but it's better than unemployment unfortunately

My wife says there is always an ambulance outside the Wells Fargo building when she leaves work.

Displaced from WF earlier this year but found a job during my 60-day notice. Negotiated start date to right after it ended. Remote job but a lot less money. Very few remote jobs out there these days, so good luck.

They will pay lower than Wells, but it is worth it IMO.

You're a bit naive on the subject. Sure, entry/low level WFH jobs are somewhat easy to find locally, but low pay goes along with low level. When it comes to more advanced, higher paying positions, being remote opens the position up to people from around the country. The competition is even higher than in-office.
