Thread regarding MetLife Inc. layoffs

Why is it so hard to get promoted?

Is it just a skill issue or is it really hard to get promoted without bullsh-tting a lot in meetings?

It's because they are cheapskates. They only have money for their buddies. For everyone else, just take some free Udemy courses and love it.

Omit needless words.

Your poor writing skills are holding you back.

@1vx I worked during Diwali but since I'm not from Indiana nobody saw it as 'above and beyond.'

One time I asked what I needed to do for the next level what additional tasks? So I did for a year then of course no promotion, when I said well I guess I’ll stop doing that extra work since you give me the promotion. I was then told if I do next year I’ll get does not expectations for stopping it and why would they ever give me the promotion when I’m already doing the work for less? Horrible company.

It's always been that way ... I worked there for years and got promoted through a fluke (a couple of reorgs within a year). I witnessed many people who toiled away in the same job year after year. Yet there were a couple of people who knew how to influence the 'right people' and put in the extra time (in one case on holidays) and got promoted.

@e8 well they’re certainly not going to promote someone who’s gotten by so far by microwaving their boss’ lunch. And they will most definitely not promote someone who can’t function without three cups of burnt coffee, anxiety meds, and a “mental health day” every other Friday. (oh did I mention Dr. Peppers every other hour?)

If you are from Indiana the chances are good that someone else from Indiana will hire you and promote you.

Do you eat rice and soup with your fingernails? If not, that’s a sign you won’t be promoted.

Sycophants get promoted in an orderly fashion, but for everyone else it doesn't exist and don't even mention the forbidden word. But, there's some MyPath projects you can take on for free and it's your chance "to shine," for absolutely no reward.

You have to leave for another company. Then they'll beg you to come back. Just ask our CHRO.
