Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

What would fix morale for you personally?

Morale is worst I’ve ever seen, and I’ve lived through the data breach and Target Canada. I’m trying to think through what would change my attitude and I’ve got:

  1. Replace all senior leaders with competent, caring individuals that act and speak like real human beings rather than corporate robots.
  2. A 10% raise
  3. More thoughtful RTO rules based on job type/duties and level.
  4. Move Product Manager roles back to the US, and just generally stop moving every gd role over to TII.

I realize none of this is ever going to happen, but it’s nice to dream.

@e7 Also, add in promotions IN ROLE because in my case, I was so stuck in my L4 role FOR YEARS, and there is no way to get promoted unless you switch teams or even departments. Had I realized that prior to joining TGT, I wouldn't have taken the job. I was stuck in that L4 for many years until I was forced to leave. Imagine being an L4, and doing the work of L5 and L6's without a promotion or a fair bump in pay?

Eliminate 3/4 of L7’s and above. They spend most of their day in GTNY’s and coffee connects.

BC not the chair of the board, RG and his cronies retired, John C as head of merchandising, sunset all collabs - get all new ones, fewer leadership visits about offshoring, staffed stores, px matching competitors, DEI language brought back, swap AP lockups with AP at the front of the store scanning receipts like Costco, a path forward in my career… realistically none of these will happen. Maybe it’s time for severance.

Move all TII jobs back to the US and unflatten the org chart. There really isn't anything for anyone to aspire to when you can't get promoted because there are three levels between L4 and director.

I think there are a lot of really good leaders. That's something I admired when joining. Also heard a lot of "if you're a je-k you don't last long". I think for the most part that has held true on my area. I like the leaders there.

I think my main thing is.

  1. Stop playing politics. Pick what your values are and stick to them. To me,it was really important seeing representation of a variety of women as leaders, in ads, and in brand owners that were promoted.
I think of that doesn't stop, great. The removal of dei to me meant a risk of not seeing women representation as much. That feels like a risky step backwards
  2. Rto feels less about collaboration and more about thinning out the numbers. I think it should really be based per team, there are some meetings that should be in person, that could mean once a quarter for some or 3x a week for others. But let the teams bring that argument rather then blanketing a RTO mandate that feels it's inching close to full rto5.

Find your way to Amazon. They are taking over big box stores with DEI clingers

An actual vision of what leaders want to achieve.

I hear we'll get "merchandise authority" with great new merch to sell. Really? When? I know we're overly complicated, what's the plan or timeframe to iron at least some of that out? I hear we're going to invest in stores. When and how? Will that include better staffing at the stores? Maybe getting rid of those stupid locked cases?

I would love, truly love, to hear some kind of vision or plan. There isn't one.

Get out of retail.

I get they are actively trying to get people to leave at this point but it would be nice if they lifted what is effectively a promotion freeze. Mediocre pay with a poor growth outlook doesn't make me wake up with a smile on Mondays.

Nothing at this point, honestly.

Get rid of the toxic di-ks who are "leadership" and bring back the really great employees who were laid off.
Agree with you on all of the points you made.
