Thread regarding CDW layoffs

Consultants, Consultants, Consultants

How much money (and time) has CDW wasted on consultants? Between Deloitte, Bain, and others we have spent millions on companies that don't give us answers, they just get paid to tell us we are doing it wrong (and then leave it to our own people to try to figure out how to fix it). We also have hired on way too many former consultants too who clearly don't know how to lead. If we had just invested the money wasted on consultants internally on our people we would be performing better.

Whatever brilliant leader thought the best strategy was to pay a ton of money to consultants to come in, should be fired immediately.

@e1 No way we would hire an ex-Slalom guy, let him bring in other Slalom people... and then sign a consulting contract with them. that would be a conflict of interest and certainly cause concerns with the board and stakeholders.

"Given the recent hires we made, I am just waiting for the email that says "We have brought Slalom on for a strategic engagement"."

To your point... how much "free cash" did we spend on consultants?
I am laughing that we even have brought in former consultants as our Execs and their go to move is to hire a consultant! Why did we hire THEM then?

Last year CDW generated about $1.1 billion in free cash flow, which could have been used to reinvest in the business or employees. Instead, the company spent roughly $500 million repurchasing its own stock and another $332 million paying dividends to shareholders (most companies our size dont even pay dividends so that they can invest in the company)
That’s about 75% of the company’s total free cash flow returned to shareholders meanwhile the stock price has fallen nearly 40% since early 2024.

Meanwhile theyll treat cdw as desperately needing outsourcing to save the company, a joke

@db internal accountability?

Who is being held accountable? Certainly not you for the failing stock prices. Certaintly not the ITS org. Not the Cloud ops group. So who exactly is being held to anything other than sales reps who you take 30% from when they miss a number. Not to mention out vendor accounting who missed billing customers in time. Did sales get a reprieve on that? No, just an I.O.U news to come and swept under the rug. But keep shipping folks to India. That is phenomenal leadership while you cry crocodile tears when making announcements. Inspirational! Brave!

Given the recent hires we made, I am just waiting for the email that says "We have brought Slalom on for a strategic engagement". It would make total sense for us to throw more money at another consultant company. Especially if our new Execs are buddies with them!

The consultants we hire and the former consultants we bring into CDW full time have been a joke. They don't get CDW. These are the people that work here for 3 years and still say "I am new here".
Yes, we need to have a vision for the future and should always evolve. We also have a ton of brilliant people that work here with great ideas. Maybe we should listen and empower our people more rather than continuing to bring in "external perspectives" that really just get paid to say "no, you are doing it wrong" without actual solutions. What a waste of time and money.

Consultants do far more than simply reflect our existing realities they chart a purposeful course forward. Their value lies not in reiterating the familiar, but in illuminating our unseen opportunities and challenging our assumptions. By rigorously pressure-testing strategies, they help ensure our decisions transcend internal consensus and avoid the pitfalls of insular thinking. We are navigating a transformative path, evolving from a product-centric fulfillment organization to a services-driven partner focused on delivering meaningful customer outcomes. Our most impactful progress occurs at the intersection of external perspective and internal accountability a dynamic we continue to advance every day. Engaging and hiring consultants is a strategic investment in broadening our vision and deepening our results. Stay tuned, there’s much more ahead.

They are asking why sellers aren't attending the professional development series any more. Those laughable sales consultants. Can't imagine how much that check was.

Turn a blind eye to failing teams even when we raise the flag. Keep moving leadership into nonsense higher paying roles instead of paying for actual resources for sellers to use.

Brian Kopf and team need to be gone. One of our highest profit lines is managed by a bunch of clowns. Brian Ty etc. Sales leadership is aware.

Keep making services more convoluted to process just so it can squeeze into Salesforce.

Quit hiring/promoting c-level and senior leadership. Keep the money on the field not the owners box. It's like they want to get the boot to get their parachute packages.

They actually just get paid what they save a company. Like when they cut the security and safety department and move IT to India. they will receive a substantial percentage of the first year's savings. It is a good move actually and it is coming.....

I can't say more in the fear that they will know who I am and I get fired. It's coming.

CDW- Please Stop hiring these clowns. It’s not only expensive but it takes a ton of selling time away. They never accomplish anything.

Consultants are one step below college professors. Those who can’t do, teach. Those who cant teach or do, do consulting.
