Thread regarding Five9 Inc. layoffs

What's with the free trip to Mexico?

I saw most of it on social media but the group who went kept it off LinkedIn, probably because they were told to. So many useless people who under perform got to go. Unbelievable.

@js All you have to do is not care then go on the UA website and book a return trip to Tulum, find a nice hotel resort then get blackout drunk and forget about your problems. Or you can continue to be resentful about other people. Don't get mad, just get drunk and have some tacos.

@js Reads like jealousy from one group to another tbh. I mean why not just move on and just buy your own vacation to Mexico instead? Another question here is it worth your time getting upset at a company having its own inner click going on vacation company dime? Why not leave and work elsewhere?

@ga you are clearly in sales which is a very black and white "did you make it" thing. however, the other groups are not like that. just look at who went from the channel group and say to yourself "have I ever got a lead from who manages named partner" and most likely the answer is no. that's the point.

All this talk of Mexico made me book some flights for summer. You guys can join and we can have a 'five9 rejects' trip and show those leadership people how it's done.

@dw Buddy you're a full grown adult having a crash out at a bunch of adults going on a trip. I'd argue that's more sad than a cheeky throwaway comment.

Assuming you're not a DEI hire and you're a hard worker in sales pulling numbers, then the commissions and bonuses (not even salary!) would be sufficient recognition for your efforts to buy a return trip to Mexico for a week easily.
Sounds like its less about the trip and more so the fact that you're just not in the club. If that's the issue then nothing is stopping you from shopping for another job elsewhere that would value you more. Insane the level of entitlement in here, I mean even if you weren't in sales, you'd still make enough to afford a trip to mexico, sounds like you're just into high school drama lol. Y'all mad as he-l but at the same time refuse to leave.

@OP You really think it's fun to be stuck with a bunch of phony, corporate, a-s kissing drones at a work event? Believe me, no matter where in the world this thing is, you don't need to waste a week of your short life-span talking BS work stuff for 12+ hours a day.

Buy your own ticket to Mexico and go with your real friends, not fake work people - it's cheap AF.

@fm because when you work your butt off and think you are finally going to be recognized for all of your effort and it goes completely unrecognized and then somebody who did absolutely nothing gets recognition and a free trip. It's discouraging. Yes, it's time to leave but it's a sad situation. It doesn't have to be this way. Once again allowing great talent walk right out the door because they just don't care. I think most people are just venting in a public forum hoping for change.

None of this discussion makes sense, people in here are complaining about not getting a free trip but at the same time are saying it's not merit-based ie you have to be a part of the 'club', ok. But at the same time nothing is stopping you from trying to join the club and play the a-s-kissing games required. Either that or just leave if you're upset? Going to mexico doesn't even cost that much

@ds if you need an example of how it is not merit based just look at the channel Team who went.

@c5 By merit based outcomes do you mean just by being in leadership you qualify? Or just by processing orders in sales ops you qualify? What “merit based outcomes” exactly did people outside of sales hit that you are referring to.

Also your DEI hire comment was just sad, it’s wild how gross people can be when they can hide behind anonymity.

@c5 I wish they were all merit based outcomes because they are certainly not. Some are, yes but a lot are not.

Are the DEI hires complaining about actual performers getting rewarded for merit-based outcomes?

You don’t have to love it. but it’s a default for any company. Sales has a club where if you exceed plan you go on a trip. If anyone in the company wants to go, join sales and hit or exceed plan on a commissions plan and you can go too.

Genuinely can't tell if people are talking about the presidents club trip to Cabo for the week or we have some other trip I'm not aware of.

It's the free trip for people who are selected to be in the "club".
