Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

When will this ordeal be over?

There’s no end in sight, and we still don’t know anything. It’s a terrible feeling not knowing what to expect, not knowing if you’re safe, while watching coworkers get let go with no clear criteria. I’m stressed out of my mind, just like most of us. My heart goes out both to those already impacted and to those still here waiting.

"When will this ordeal be over?"

Not for a very long time. In fact, LE's heat-seaking moisture missle is locking in on your b*tthole as I type this.

Find the escape hatch and hit the "EJECT" button pronto!

Looks like we are in the eye of the storm this week, the false calm that will give way to more destruction and mayhem.

@dr so you can Slack off and whine while all this cr-p happens, but the next time a RIF list is being compiled you as a known slacker have a much better chance of being on the next list.
Glad I'm not your boss!

@dq why? lists are already compiled. there is no point doing anything more than bare minimum until these layoffs are over.

If your job matters to you maybe spend more time doing it rather than spending time on a site such as this? If you have this much free time than it supports the notion that you are not working too hard and you being a part of the next RIF is plausible...

@ab Is it really always like this? They have done it like this in the past, that they layoff some in a team without letting the immediate manager give any input? The selection has felt totally random in the past as well?

No over yet in the US. Next round likely in May (prior to FY end). Hopefully they at least take manager input verses whatever random selection they've done the time around - to many high performers got caught up in this mess.

I have survived so many layoffs at multiple companies - Oracle more than any of them - and it's always like this. That will likely fade as time goes on, in fact it almost certainly will. Until the next one.

It comes with working in the corporate world. No escaping it I'm afraid.

Safe for this year, most likely layoff next year as early as March . This is not over… just get a new job eventually…

Check when your org next All-hands, they will finish in your org before it.

As for on-going round, NAs first round is done in September, it should roll to Europe and further east, and if they lay off around 3k there total, it will likely mean this year quota is met and you are safe till Christmas.

I recommend to keep backing up your personal files, payslips and update resume.
To get early indication of your department - keep Slack channels participants count as an indicator to see if your org is being cut.
