Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Defeated, disappointed and everything in between

I live in a state that no longer has a hub, I cannot move, so I am unable to get a claims job, since claims is hybrid my job was approved for the exit program, almost 20 years with this company Im losing my job.. its a very odd feeling to be in this position as im sure it is with so many others. I was a very loyal employee and this is how my job ends. Its quite sad.. defeated doesnt even discribe how i feel...

@nc If and when my tenure is 38 years, I will be 63 years old. I would retire at full retirement age so fast you have no idea. I wouldn't even be worried about some exit program. I have seen over the past 20 years how people who get to be around 45-50 years old start being treated though (like pushed out of their job). So anyone who can withstand the force out abuse program that starts running against you when you get older and make it to the end is generally pretty fortunate.

38 years with the company, wish I would qualify for the exit program. Sign me up and I would be happy to exit and create opportunities for others.

"The AI tool to help with grammar is not because of diversity hires."
You have clearly never reviewed a claim file and had to pick through the file notes or review a letter that someone has "freestyled" because they are too d-mb to search forms and don't know that spelling things how they sound is like 4th grade. Diversity includes d-mb people regardless of any other check boxes.

It's always interesting how so "many" people come on here to be right wing keyboard bullies and try to disparage (big word, I know) those of us who have earned positions and education, but are too afraid to speak up about it in public. I am sure a lot of these execs and DEI hires that you think so little of would love to know your true thoughts. Grow a pair and be your authentic self!

@dn The AI tool to help with grammar is not because of diversity hires. Anyone with children could tell you that it is a problem well beyond your bogeyman scarecrow target. Maybe you should ask why we keep executives and leaders who see AI slop as insightful?

@de So why did we just introduce an AI letter generator in claims for all of those "qualified" hires that can't write a simple, coherent, grammatically correct letter to a customer?

@d5 The company is not hiring unqualified people just to meet a diversity quota. You are re--rded for thinking this.

State Farm has openly stated 68%+ of its new hires, over the last 5 years, have been people of color/minorities. Nothing against anyone or any group of people, to each their own. They did nothing wrong. But when you make hiring decisions based on the color of someone's skin/gender/s-xual orientation and not their ability/merit, you hire people that are not qualified for the jobs. You set them up for failure. When you exclude 70% of the population from your hiring practices that is discrimination regardless of intent. When you promote based on "optics" that is discrimination and puts people in jobs that are not deserving of it. It harms everyone including those people of color/minorities they claim to be helping. That is also part of all the other bad decisions Executives have made! Actually what SF is doing is abusing these groups of people they are claiming to want to help! Oldest story in the book is taking advantage of those marginalized groups. Another facet of the burn and churn and pump and dump business model.

Is this what you mean by " DEI hire” is a disparaging term that refers to quotas or targets for hiring racial and ethnic minorities, women, and/or people with disabilities for positions? Because this is not the reason why sf is failing. Its failing because of bad decisions starting at executive levels.

State Farm is "southern rich" in their minds. They have several thousand U/W employees they do not need and overstaffed in many areas in Fire an Auto claims. Plus AI is coming. Company is pure junk! Also they hired the wrong people over the last 10 years. The 2040 workforce is a huge problem but also possess a huge lawsuit risk. You have about 10% of our workforce out of some type of FMLA or STD especially in Auto and Fire claims. The bigger they are the harder they fall as SF decide to go "woke" a follow the trend back during COVID. Paying a huge price for it now and probably will not survive. They have $160+ billion in the bank so it takes some time to wind down, but it will happen. The business decisions and MT/JF cancer are fatal to the patient! Enjoy! Leave this place!

Soon they will start firing more people do to less need since they have AI taking on more of the tasks that claim handlers usually handle.

Why couldn’t they give you a claims position? I know a bunch of people who went from other positions to a total loss claim specialist role who are fully remote. I guess they don’t need people in TL anymore

Genuinely sorry for your loss. Take a little time to heal and then find your new gig. Sadly this organization is not the same place you joined 20 years ago. Something even better is out there waiting for you!

Keep your chin up! It will be the best thing that ever happened to you. Claims is a living nightmare and the hubs are cesspools. I had a chance to take severance when they closed my office when they eliminated all the OCs before COVID. Looking back, I should have taken the money and gotten out of this horrible sh-t hole company. Moving to a hub only made things worse, they reassign and torture people to try to make them leave with no severance. This company is crooked, consumed with 2040 DEI check the box hires, and horrible environments. It truly is an evil company and does not stand for anything decent or respectable. Run...run away as fast as you can.
