@OP No it won't, reason being. Ford is attempting to be a SV FAANG, obvious differences, 1) Equity is actually worth something at a FAANG 2) FAANGs, well they have restaurants, cafes, kitchens, snacks, drinks and most but not all are free or heavily subsidized. 3) Management and vision. JF is focused on EVs and Ford Racing mainly. That stuff is well tech bro level and woos talent but it doesn't make Ford profitable and it doesn't fix recalls. 4) All the FAANGs offices align with each other in terms of amenities and infrastructure. Ford, well we all know that is not the case company wide.

Also the concept of Ford Land's hotel seating is not something you will find at a FAANG. This in general, is flawed.

@ks I agree, it's a real loss to Apple. Hopefully JF fully appreciates the caliber of talent he has with Doug.

Losing DF to Apple would be just terrible for Ford and Ford's future, but on the other hand Apple would benefit significantly with his fresh perspective and future vision. I would love to see what new products Apple could launch under his leadership.

He needs to stay at Ford though!

@ar Been at Ford for 10 years and they're right. The problem has been inside the walls for well over a decade. Most legacy folks are woefully ignorant and lack simple technical skill. Our release and validation processes are outmoded and have not kept up with modern software release processes. Way too many folks overly rely on supplier technical knowhow to manage issues and balk at any hint of change. CE1 comes along and it's almost DOA because so many id--ts in Dearborn are so conditioned to only operate in a little box, that any notion of change represents as an existential threat.

@e8 we should be thankful to have him. Had a latte with him this morning, nice guy, cute slippers.

@e1 Latest news on Apple is the chatter Tim Cook is looking to step down. Would not surprise me if DF is in the list of successors but he has competition.

The PD processes at Ford really do su-k. There is no point in denying it. The process-less Cali way isn't right either, but the Dearborn based PD processes are slowly ki-ling the company.

@aq you are not the only one who is looking to leave or has left. JF’s mission to let CE1 run free has hit a wall recently as Dearborn digs in their heels. I expect launch delays because CE1 in general is not staffed to handle this level of work.

The honeymoon is over and even DF cannot change the course.. Many Apple Cobblers are in the process of updating their resumes.

@aq

Well lipstick on a pig part and that fact that you are looking for another position are things I can say you have right. At least some of the process pain is CE1 management being unwilling to work with a lot of in place things because they think they are "different" is the nice way to put it. Maybe if I was being a little less generous I'd say "above" those things.

@as

I know. like show dogs with papers. Hard to get them to even acknowledge processes that have been in place at Ford for a long time. I guess we 'll see how it goes. I have my popcorn out while we watch a lot of them jump ship. How many do you think will be around after the 1st of the year?

Apple and oranges. Best part of the cafeteria. Life is good.

@ar Don’t shoot the messenger I’m only GSR level. I no longer care who is to blame but it is messed up either way. All the Apple people are hard to work with too.

@aq Oddly, people in Dearborn think the same of those in California, terrible management, poor processes, disorganized, incompetent, and arrogant. Just because you don't want to take the time to learn how something works doesn't mean it's garbage. Our problems are at the top and out west.

I’ll never see it, I work on CE1 in CA and am currently looking for a new job. Only been with Ford over a year and Ford is lipstick on a pig. The internal processes are horrendous and there is too many incompetent managers and clueless program managers.
