Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

70-90% of future model code now written by Claude

This is pretty crazy:

I'm sure there's a large amount of effort that goes into validation, but yikes. Meanwhile, AI from MS lags pretty far behind, so WF people are safe for a bit. Has anyone seen any actual AI agent automation being experimented with in any meaningful way at this point? If so, tell us what it's doing!

Sadly, the need for developers will decline greatly for AI driven teams. Time to reevaluate your path.

That's ok, 100% of the stupid S that HY comes up with could be done by chatgpt 1.0, and yet, those clowns still have jobs.

@dk

Remember the crowdstrike failure that brought the world to its knees? That was a human. They forgot to update like one line in a config file.

Right, claude is so good it "fixed" a bug in Amazons code by deleting critical user features. Yeah, that indeed eliminated the bug.

Claude is nothing more than stackexchange on steroids. Lets face it, half the sh-t you code, you borrowed and tweaked from stackexchange. Well, now its all in claude for easier querying.

Claude can only code whats already been done. If you have to write a novel algorithm with complex optimization, that still has to be extruded from your monkey brain.

I see there is a lot of AI su-k in this thread. People still have no idea what's coming.

There is a lot of carrots being put out there. CoPilot is a basic carrot -- the real system Sam wants everyone in is ChatGPT and codex. Then there is Gemini and Claude. Ever wonder why most of the big systems at Wells Fargo are built in Java? the language of choice for I. Yeah I know CS is on the board at M$FT. Waiting for BE and OHio to save the day. @ay, while waiting I suggest you pick up the book The Agentic Bank.

I can see firsthand the offshoring and AI coding that's been starting to infect its way into our mortgage origination software for a few years now. Whenever I have to submit a ticket (there is no longer help desk or chat support for this software) some Policy Peter just emails me back that the system is running the calculations according to the correct rules/instructions.

Co-pilot cant even be locked down to pull data from one spread sheet to another after you feed it the template, even if the columns and rows are the same. Never mind be smart enough to do some index match. I will roll with my running vba/python and providing examples to my managers who will inevitable think co-pilot is the way to go. At least with vba i can make it index match and execute the calculations that i programmed rather than have it think its smarter

There is practically NO verification of code, which is why we are now seeing articles on downed systems due to AI generated code. By the way, who will be left to verify code if the people/AI agents responsible for implementing it do not understand the language outside vendor documentation fed to a knowldege base?

@ar I do work in tech, actually. I know first hand how dysfunctional the org is. I'm also noticing how India is gradually overtaking the US both in numers, and now even in skill. There are still quite a few duds, but the number of competent engineers in India now exceeds the talent we have in the US.

This isn't even including the number of immigrants in US hubs, which seem to be like 3:1 if I were to guess.

Anyway, Copilot is not very good compared to other products. That's a fact. And I maintain you are probably safe for a while. They'll replace you with an Indian before they replace you with an AI agent.

It seems like the OP is the same AI su---r who posts every couple weeks about how Wells is falling behind in its AI use...and then reveals he's never even worked in tech here (or anywhere). But Scam Altman said so!

@ah I know you're terrified, but you'll figure something out. I hear instacart and uber are hiring. Oh wait.

@ag do you really struggle with reading comprehension and honesty to that degree? The AI sure has rotted your brain.

@aa OP here. What did I say exactly that would imply I demand more? I'm just stating the facts. With that said, resistance is futile. You may stall it for a while, but it's here to stay, as sad as it is.

I'm mostly just remarking at the fact that they're using it to code itself quite a bit now. Pretty wild. I can't decide if it will end in disaster.

The entire rest of the workforce is sick of this junk being shoved down our throats and ruining the economy and OP is the sole weirdo demanding more.
