As a Manager I will respond by saying many of you have no idea. I agree there are poor Managers out there just as there are poor performers at every level of every role. Does not make all bad. It used to be good to be in Management and help lead people by being available to show and teach and focus on those employees who did quality work and wanted to grow. It does not work like that anymore because Managers have to spend so much time completing useless tasks and follow up on the poor performers. HR policies and actions have changed to a point where I really don't see any attraction to the role. There is more money and less responsibility in Individual Contributor roles and HR only supports you opposed to making you feel guilty all the time. No one needs to feel sorry for Managers, but maybe you could have a little understanding as to what they are dealing with every day. Just one bad performer who also contributes negativity into our environment can literally eat up 25% or more of their Managers time each work week.
I nabbed this from another thread, because this explains the current situation with managers perfectly. All credit goes to https://www.thelayoff.com/t/1cg4h4x2 - Post ID: @1ncb+1cg4h4x2
