Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Relocated to Dallas from Atlanta(Lenox Park)

In 05/2025 and was just let go. 10 months later. Thank God the family stayed in Georgia. I lived in a rat trap for the past 9 months to save a few bucks and protect against uprooting my entire family. VP kept asking me when's the family moving out? Packing up the car this weekend and heading home. Ingot problems and will have trouble finding something but thank god I didn't put my family through that.

@bz Wallstreet loves layoffs as it means company is cutting operating cost.

Has nothing to do with rank as I know two people who were top performers and respected by everyone let go due to not moving. We are all feeling the impact of their departure across the organization.

The real hack is living in Acworth and being a Director in Construction in Kennesaw

Would you be willing to travel to a West African nation called Zangora. We need you to persuade the current president Katanga to resign. Or orchestrate a Coup d'état. A well equipped mercenary force will be available. All expenses paid of course.

Are you not even completing your final two weeks at your assigned work location in Dallas?

@df Performance is about bonuses and upward mobility. It can save you through various head cuts, but when they target you, you are gone. Currently, you can be the top performer on your team, but if you don't live in the right place and are unwilling to move, you are history.

OP-
Sorry this happened, glad your family was spared.

@c8
You will find out one day that no matter what your performance is when YOUR time is up and YOUR number has been called, it does NOT matter what your performance is. Your performance will NOT save your job once YOUR time is up and your number has been called. Just ask ALL the MANY high performers that were laid off!

Also, don’t forget about Karma!

@ap , that’s their goal.

It doesn’t matter if you work in Atlanta or Dallas if you don’t perform. Ask your VP why you were ranked so low on your team.

Well it is not as though we did not try to tell you. When you are asked to move, you are being laid off. It is just a way to fake the numbers so they don't have to tell Wall Street they are doing layoffs. If it does not work they will just roll you into the next round of real layoffs at your destination.

“Could have done the job from anywhere.”

Clearly not.

Original Poster here. I wasn't let go due to not moving. I was let go along with a bunch of others because we were deemed "Surplusable". Very glad my wife and kids stayed put in Georgia. I had a feeling this was going to happen. Heading back to Georgia Sunday for good. Dallas is not fun. ATT made it even more miserable. $1000 rat trap and living like a b-m trying to save money. Flew back once every two weeks for a long weekend. Could have done the job from anywhere.

Never move for a company that makes you choose between your family and the CEO. Never.

Same thing happened to a coworker. He had been warned about taking so many Mondays and Fridays off as single days clearly for commuting. He was let go when the pattern continued.

@aq his family is NONE of the VP's business & would not have known if his family moved or not. Stop with your lies you miserable little man.

You never really moved and were held accountable. Even your VP was asking why you hadn’t fully moved and were distracted. You should have been let go at the 6-month mark.

Did he have a Tx address? Then yes, he moved and it’s none of his boss’s business where his family stays. He wasn’t held accountable. He avoided trap.

@aq It is not the VPs responsibility to worry about employees families and where they live. It is their position to take care of company responsibilities.
There is no way i would uproot my family and move to Dallas for a position that will most likely go away.
