Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Why refuse jobs?

I keep seeing posts from people saying they can’t land a job, and I’m confused. So many who have been laid off seem to refuse anything that doesn’t feel perfect or exactly their level. How do you manage to be so picky if there’s no paycheck coming in? Do you think severance will last forever?

I read an article that people are using dating apps to find a job. I was wondering if I can use a layoff website to find a job.

@ff

LOL...you actually think it's a flex, to boast about being swindled into getting a "Masters degree." Dude, no one cares, it's a worthless and pointless "achievement," and the only people who are impressed by such BS are your fellow foolish lemmings, who also mistakenly think it holds SO much cachet to be able to make it a point to drop into conversations about how they were in GRAD school and/or got their Masters. The only thing you and those of your equally over-educated ilk have mastered is the fine art of being a CHUMP!

All GRAD school really means is, you're too much of a weakazz dewwwsh to handle the real world when you should have already been out in it, grinding and hustling for $$$. Instead, you chose to hide away in the ivory tower for an additional 4 years, postponing the inevitable, and draining your family's coffer$ and/or racking up more student loan debt in the process. How's that GRAD SCHOOL decision been workin' out for ya lately? The lazy hazy crazy days of DEI admissions and student loan pay-back deferments are OVER, su-ka. PAY UP!

P.S. If you were truly educated, you'd know that real education includes not just book smarts, but street smarts and people smarts, too.

First thing first,
Boomers and Gen X are saying Millennials and Gen Z are whining when it was no where near the same money being made, cost of living, and food. Millennials and Gen Z are the most educated generations and have options. We do not have to settle for chump change when we have the education and experience on hand. The job market just doesn’t like the fact that when we are not happy with a job, we don’t settle. Just like a relationship, you don’t settle for anything, you want whatever is best. At least I don’t settle. I hold a Masters degree and you will pay me for it.

There nothing wrong with this post. Someone hit the nail on the head saying Gen X, Gen Jones and Boomers will be self-reliant and if we have to take a less desirable job to get by for a while, we do. And continue to search and network in the process. In fact, in this age of AI, getting back to basics like joining local business groups and other focused career groups is helpful. Nothing beats human to human interaction. I agree- Gen Z, and Millenials whine way too much.

Peace Out from Gen X here!

@dr

You can do whatever you want but personally, I wouldn't feed the Indian trolls. They clearly have miserable little lives if they feel the need to post like they do.

@dc

So you are an ageist, and also discriminate against people due to their physical looks they were born with, and familial situations - which happen to all be things that people cannot control.

Nice work.
Thanks for showing us all who and what you really are.

@OP, hey clown this is a layoff site. People come here when they lost their job, not to listen to you talk about how good you have it. Out of touch.

Last post was wild. They must be a leader or executive at Optum. Good thing its only certain generations, and not identifiable protected groups then.

I think we found the problem right here with this poster. Don't work there, certainly.

Usually the picky people who've gotten laid off are Gen Z, Alpha, or Millennials, who get help from either a spouse who's comfortably employed, or their parents, to pay their bills for them until they can land another job.

Gen X, Gen Jones, and Boomers are used to relying on themselves, and somehow usually find a way to do just that.

There will probably be people responding to this post, insisting that the reason why they get help from family when laid off, is because things are so much "harrrrrrrrrrrrrder" now than they were back then....but we all know that the real reason why is because a lot of those within the younger gens are just too SOFT to do what it takes to really take care of themselves.

@OP U.S. unemployment hit a four-year high in November. Where are these jobs people are supposedly turning down? I was RIF’d by Optum, and several external roles I applied for were later canceled. Most healthcare companies are laying white collar people off, not hiring.

@OP This post is so out of touch with reality. It is another example where people come to a layoff board just to put down the employees who were let go.

@OP I understand that employees’ choice and wellbeing have never truly been your priority, but whatever they decide to do or not do after being laid off is none of your business.

Hey, I should be able to help you out on this one. They were working one day, and layoff notice the next. If they had an immediate need to be paid to sweep floors the next day, one might do that.

Too often companies, like yours, keep employees as collateral in their business. They keep them hammered down in the bottom of their org chart, often without any room for advancement or specialization.

A layof with severance is a good opportunity to remedy that problem, and gives the ex-employee room to do that for themselves.

I hope that i've cleared this up for you.
