Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

9 Months Into Role - IM Rating?

Context: hired 9 months ago and had a meets rating during my mid-year review (~3 months after starting). Today I had my year-end review and received an IM rating, specifically for "communication".

Is this common for new hires to receive an IM rating on their first year-end review? Not only that, but for something so general as communication?

Details: my review did not mention any specific instance of lack of communication. Just a general statement of how some of my superiors felt I lacked communication that led to delays. So of course my review states an action plan on how to improve my communication, obivously without knowing what the problem even is.

What's even more confusing, my review has a glowing summary and notes from my manager for an array of things. From actively leading young talent to preparing me for a promotion by mid-2026. Not to mention assist in leading a new segment in for my group that will lead to massive growth for our market.

I don't even know what I'm asking, just needed to rant and put this out there. Anyone been through something similar or at least let me know wtf is going on with my IM rating?

@tn this was me. I joined a new time at the start of the year and the supposed, targeted IM guy quit after mid year reviews. Presumably because he was about to be forced out.

So guess who became the new IM guy at year end? You guessed it...

You're not safe. I was switched teams within 3 months of joining after a reorg, and after about 3 months on this new team I ended up with an IM despite the fact that I was still learning all of the systems while taking on my assigned duties. The forced ranking system will be unfair to new team members in most cases, unless your manager absolutely hates someone that's already there.

The firm's on here writing these fake little stories about people being rated low totally out of the blue and making sure they stay hugely upvoted. Look at how disproportionate it is to other concurrent posts, and how a guy clearly posing as different posters will sh-t out a few tall tales in ten minutes. The other week he was trying to get a rumor going about severance being gone in 2026.

They WANT us in a state of fear to drive us to quit without severance.

@ev this guy is a HR troll. Spends all his time talking sh-t. Never posts anything helpful or substantive. Paid shill to discredit and disrupt any narrative that may reflect poorly on an already terrible and shady company. What a loser.

This is what happens when the country votes in an unhinged oranged psychopath who completely disregards decorum and rule of law. CEO is completely emboldened knowing how regulatory agencies have been gutted and no longer watching.

Call your representatives. Call the media. Tell them what is happening.

Hello everybody I am once again reaching out to the community to alert you that the McDonald near the office do not care about they customer. Yesterday I ordered a Large Fry to go with my 3 McDoubles and all they gave me was a Regular. When I tried to call to speak to a manager they kept hanging up on me which forced me to drive back to get my concern addressed and forced me to be out of the office fir another half hour.
McDonalds needs to LAY OFF the employees who did me like this which is why I am posting this information on this website.

Please respond or forward this Service Request to the correct department. Thank you and have a blessed day.

The troll is really invested in pumping this rumor for some reason. It’s pretty obvious half these replies and fake upvotes are the same freak

Maybe he’s a shill…or more likely its some paranoid ego trip to avoid admitting to himself that he’s incompetent.

OP here -

appreciate the replies. Lot of conflicting info on this thread and others so we'll see how it plays out. My manager said this rating won't affect my compensation, so we shall see about that too.

It's been said before, but I think it has something to do with me being the newest higher (at least newest in the PR process + salary being well above my peers. My manager also changed after mid-year reviews too, not sure if that has an effect either.

This is completely accurate. Only my game started 2022. I had outside mgr who set me up to lift her external hires..they are bringing in new leadership who are experts in this game and bad mgrs who have been there long time are in love with the game. You will not get bonus and likely fired. I did and I also requested my file. Did not get it. Oh they also f' ed up printing capabilities in last few yrs just so you could not print. Atty will not take case unless you have specific evidence in writing. The gameers are way too smart for that though
Lastly...it bothers me all the deniers...they must be gamers too?

OP, managers are under immense pressure to meet quotas for stacked ranking and it’s become a common practice to select newer hires. Some disingenuously try to explain it by saying new hires are inherently lower performers. The problem with this approach is that once the rating is in your file it will cause significant, permanent downstream damage to your career at the company and future compensation. I am sorry you joined the firm only to be met with this, but I’d be doing you a disservice if I sugarcoated the matter.

I’m from USAA. Same sh-t leadership surprises with a written and no prior feedback. I got caught from behind. They took my bonus. There’s a culture of giving out pips and write ops for petty reasons to take away bonuses and come within budget. The game is us.

@d6 The vast majority of "inside info" on this site is conspiracies concocted by narcissists who can't take any criticism or realize why someone wouldn't want to work with them. There's actually a regular psychotic poster who thinks he was let go because management was so threatened by him being extremely gullible about AI, I sh-t you not.

@d6 I’m only posting facts. WF has found a way to downsize staff by firing people with no warning so they don’t have to pay severance. 20 years service and one year not at meet or exceed and no verbal, written or PIP prior to firing? To addd to this there was at least one person per team under the group was in fired around the same time and non of the positions were refilled?

Forced ranking likely. Also a sign of the typical sht leadership we have here. You should never be surprised by your rating or feedback on a review. If there are communication issues, your manager should tell you well before it shows up on your review - or even at mid-year informally. Again, typical sht leadership. Also on midyear-- the lazy leadership typically rates everybody "meets" unless there's an issue at mid-year. They're too lazy and don't want to bother with calibration.

Last thing-- everybody should be ready for surprises on their year end. Got word this week about calibration, and yes things got done, but more could have gotten done (nevermind that some things are beyond our control). Just another example of this new sh*t leadership

I was with wells for 20 years, received first IM in 2024 and was fired 11/2025 due to 2024 IM. Never written up or put in a PIP. I fought the fik g and per HR my firing was per Wells performance policy. I asked for documentation and was told they would not provide anything as the performance policy is an internal document. Wells is using IM rating to fire people in lieu of layoffs so they don’t have to pay severance. If you received an IM review the performance policy

Set up a few topic meetings with your mgr on communication improvements. Agenda item 1) formal delineation of the inconsistency / problem statement. And be sure to ask point blank if this is more due to ranking nuance than fundamental performance shortcomings.

Hold mgr’s feet to the fire and watch them squirm.

Good news is you are only 9 months in. Get out before you are stuck waiting for a package. No opportunity and a CEO who in the media states clearly his goal is to cut as many as he can.

Likely due to forced ranking. Someone else got a 4 so another had to get a 2. Bell curve. You are new and an easy target. Maybe you’ll be safe since you’re new and your manager likely knows you’re not at an IM level. Don’t sweat it though. 2% raises have been the norm since I started managing in 2006. If you survive 2026 it may get better and be worth it to you.
