My colleague was fired today, apparently she was coming into the office 4 days a week but only stayed for 5-10 minutes..
Not sure how they noticed but watch out.

If they would apply the RTO policy equally to everyone that would be nice. Many in my office still stroll in around 9:30 and are out the door by noon never to be seen again for the rest of the day. Meanwhile you have others that are fired, given final warnings or coaching emails.
@b0 the ELT didn't actually make this decision Tom Jenkins and the board did
@dk tell us you’re 9 without specifically telling us how old you are.
@OP The whole point of the policy is to give them an excuse to fire people. Or to get people to quit on their own.
People are being fired for coffee badging along with their direct managers. Yes, managers and even directors had been suggesting that people coffee badge.
Then suddenly they start enforcing the policy en masse.
They're also firing people who didn't complete their mandatory trainings on time.
No warnings. No reprimands.
It's all about money.
If true, absolutely 100% deserved to be sacked.
@ap as someone one who went through the exemption process and was approved by HR, I still got let go. Don’t waste your time and disclose your business.
The number of times the HR watch employees more than watching their own d.i.c.k.s/ver.gi.na everyday.
Unless we are their d.i.c.k, why bother watching us all the time!
@dg so her manager approved the coffee badging ? Unlikely
@b0 In Waterloo, they've bought new floor space in a 3rd building and are renovating. Yes, the mostly empty 2-building in Waterloo wasn't enough apparently. Work from home at OpenText is dead until the next pandemic
@d5 keywords "agreement with your manager" If the manager says "good enough if you badge in, meeting and leave" then policy requirement filled and yes all of that can be done within 10 minutes
@cn are you being serious? The policy states you need agreement with your manager on "reasonable core hours in the office "
In what world is ten mins reasonable core hours ?
@OP Sounds like a lawsuit, the document I signed didn't specify how much time you needed to be there only that you needed to be there X days a week.
It's her own fault , she was playing with fire by doing this
Guys , first off. We are forgetting the main issue here. Why did the ELT enforce RTO. What is the justification and make it more brutal by making it a 5 day RTO mandate.
ELTs have to be in office and see each other face to face and their immediate repetees face to face. Just becuase their job needs to them to be in office doesn't mean that every tom, di-k and harry needs to be . I hope the new CEO brings in some rational, well thought out policies. No ELT has yet justified RT0 policy except to say "we want to promote water cooler talk". Really? C'mon....how the he-l do you become ELT in a 20k employee org with that kind of decision making and rationale.
@an Check and review th policy in OTCi. If it’s unclear, talk to your manager. If your manager can’t get you a satisfactory answer, escalate up your higher level management chain. You can also reach out to your HR representative. If all that fails, reach out to the new CEO.
@ap HR has entered the chat
@an they’ve been quite clear that exceptions need to be approved through the formal signing process, individual line managers cannot authorise the behaviour being described here.
If you don’t have it in writing, agreed by HR, you don’t have an agreement.
@am What exactly is the RTO policy? What if your management makes exceptions? What if your management suddenly enforces it as if they made no exceptions?
I don’t understand why anyone thinks this behaviour is acceptable, many don’t agree with the RTO policy, but comply - because that is what is being asked of us.
@ae more reasonable than cameras
IP address
@OP In our office they used cameras.
Well they can apply at Starbucks!
