Let us know how it went!
@d5 This has been abolished since July. The notice period in the Czech Republic is now only 60 days, so if you receive notice at the beginning of the month, the period is not extended by the remaining days of the month as before. It is 60 days from the notice day.
@d3 to my understanding it’s only three months severance if you’ve been with the company for 2+ years. under a year is a month and 1-2 years 2 months.
Notice period 2 full months so if you’re let go in the beginning of the month, it’s almost 3.
Know your rights. Labor law in the Czech republic is quite favourable to employees, look up what you are eligible for. Even if the meeting turns out about something else, better be prepared.
There are two methods how employees are laid off in the Czech republic. Unilateral dismissal ("výpověď") or mutual agreement ("dohoda o ukončení pracovního p-měru").
Dismissal means 2 months notice period and 3 months worth severance payment. Companies usually offer lump sum of 5 or 6 month salary to sign agreement that you end immediately. You don't pay social and medical insurance/tax from a severance, so you get more slightly money out of deal if you agree with agreement and company saves a ton of money. Plus if almost everybody signs a deal, they don't have to bother with collective dismissal ("hromadné propouštění"). It's quite lengthty and complicated, so the company is motivated to push everybody into signing an agreement.
Decide what is more favourable for you. Company cannot force you into signing agreement, they want agreement so they should sweeten the deal. Good luck!
@OP I would prepare for the worst, but they usually call the layoff meetings just one day ahead.
You could ask your manager, but they may be under instructions not to reveal the true purpose of the meeting. But you may read something from the way they respond.
OCI performance evaluation is wrapping up in September. It could be about that. Not sure if other LOBs follow the same schedule.
If you're being laid off, expect Slack to be disabled while you're in the meeting. It seems to vary from country to country whether your laptop is locked and whether you still have access to email after the meeting. Prepare to lose all access immediately.
You say your meeting is with your manager, so they should know already. But for other readers: If your meeting is not with your direct manager, please inform them immediately, and let them know the outcome after the meeting is over. They will probably not be informed by anoyone else. Managers have to check Slack deactivation like everyone else to figure out who's still on their team. (It's crazy, I know.)
Good luck!
New layoff rounds in the U.S and India - looks like keeping (EMEA)best for the last
Not cooked, it would be a 15 mins call.
@OP It's always annoying when they want to have a 'powow' on a Friday. I would hope they would have the decency to not wait until Friday, but be prepared. Talk to your peers, exchange info, document important projects, and mentally prep. Could also be RSUs. If so have a drink.
Same
Don't bet on the conversation being about comp. RSU process is just starting and still has to go thru management/board approval. No other comp adjustments this year. Best of luck.
If it's Friday then maybe you're in luck. Doesn't seem like they're in rushing. Goodluck.
What ever it is, I hope it's ok and you get RSUs bonus and not that other news... Good luck
@OP which team?
you can:
- ask your colleagues if they have one too
- ask your manager if its your doomsday (if you have that type of relationship s/he might hint but not say)
- analyze manager's behavior in past and predict if this is typical event
- prepare for both scenarios
I heard in CZ, some teams were unformally notified about its future but it's through 3 ppl rumour, so its legitimacy might not be very high
my manager already told me that RSUs will be distributed in Oct.
I meant they might give you next RSU package, if it didn't happen yet this year.
It's bit odd it's afternoon and so well ahead + NetSuite was already sla-ghtered.
So it's possible it's about good news, if your team already went through layoffs.
@a2 sorry 😞
@a1 my manager already told me that RSUs will be distributed in Oct.
Cooked - I was.
most probably
it's also possible it's about bonus and RSUs, it used to happen around this time
