Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

salt lake city RIF

The Salt Lake City office is laying off American employees while retaining Indian married couples, both on H-1B visas, whose positions are being justified through fraudulent job postings — listing fabricated or inflated "DE-demonstrated experience" requirements that don't reflect actual job duties, solely to manufacture H-1B/Green Card eligibility.

Why is the H-1B visa so favored? What special skills do they have that Americans are lacking?

@hw "Referral-based hiring is standard across all open requisitions, regardless of ethnic background" ... Exactly... H1B referring another H1B to make sure they have a job and maintain their visa status.

@hk I don’t dispute the specific scenario you mentioned, it is important to recognize that this practice is not unique to this individual or group. Referral-based hiring is standard across all open requisitions, regardless of ethnic background. For example, looking at the teams reporting to leaders like Bill, Eric, etc. many individuals driving our technology and modernization initiatives do not come from technical backgrounds or have any exp. Singling out this specific case while overlooking a widespread organizational practice suggests an underlying bias.

Indian GCLs are hiring Indian CLs, who in turn are hiring H-1B workers — leaving little to no opportunity for Americans.

@cp There is a mandatory requirement to post job listings, just to create the appearance that the company was unable to find a qualified American candidate — and therefore justify hiring a foreigner.

When I was applying for jobs I saw this line many time "DE-demonstrated experience" "
What does this exactly mean?
I tried to apply for a "Director" role and saw them mentioning about 'Demonstrated experience'

I saw lots of these Permanent Residency labor market test postings earlier this year, with their end dates being in March and April. Makes me wonder if it was simply a coincidence they all had end dates before the layoffs began?
