Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

There's a silver lining

If you're laid off, would you use that as an opportunity to tell your manager exactly what you think about him/her? That’s if you’ve got an a--hole manager like mine, of course. I've been thinking that’s one good thing about being laid off. I’d definitely let him have it. Call him out on his incompetence, favoritism, and total lack of people skills. What’s he gonna do, fire me?

Consider entering constructive feedback to your manager in Workday. It provides lasting visibility and could help your manager improve.

#revengequitting would I love to tell off my horrible manager for micromanaging, arguing with me every time we meet, call her out on unethical behavior? Absolutely… but it won’t change a thing. She will probably get promoted to the next level because the good managers will leave in this round only to te--orize her next victims, aka her reports. Use your gut feeling- you probably already know what you want to do and are looking for validation. Go with it.

@ey, ?????? wow. take a chill pill, old dude. this is the layoff's site and many of us, young and old, are dealing with that. We all get that you are all triggered beyond reproach but don't you have some other sites to troll? You can try your little profiling game with them, how bout that?
Buh-bye

@d0+1jq3ysz78
you stated, "when you have something real to post. please do."
I did post something constructive in a previous message, see below.

You are a very negative person and your comments are always very short and negative. You lack emotional intelligence and will have a difficult time in your career. Based upon your comments, my profile of you is a single white male (or unhappily married) between the ages of 28 to 32 that came from an upper middle class family in the suburbs of the US. You went to a large prominent university and you expect to succeed based upon your place in society and education, however, you are frustrated your career has not rewarded you beyond your current level. Hence, the bitterness in your attitude. You are one of the posters that complains the "foreigners" have taken away your opportunities when in reality the foreigners that have migrated to the US have worked there @ss off to succeed in their countries of origin. You are not succeeding in life because you believe you are entitled to success without working hard every day to achieve. If you are employee at Chevron, I hope you are laid off because your attitude stinks.

"Why bother? I understand how you feel but the best thing to do is prepare for the worse and transition to a new job as quickly as possible. I have been laid off before and I can tell you the best thing is to get started somewhere else. It may not be as good as Chevron but get started rebuilding your life."

You can pull an "Office UK" stunt and take a big d*mp in the middle of your boss' office (or under his desk) when everyone else's gone for the day.

A parting gift, of sorts.

Does seem a little childish, as many have pointed out. Burning bridges is only hurting you, no one else. And I wouldn't believe the tall tales on here either. This site is known for that.

OP I was laid off from a company several years ago and when I was in my exit interview with my manager and the VP of HR, I told the VP of HR that my manager and the guys that worked for me in my team would make fun of her. They would say she was the illegitimate daughter of the founder of the company because she looked just like him. He had a portrait in the lobby of the building and she did look just like him. Apparently, her mother was the admin for the owner while he was the CEO. I told her I thought the story was very disrespectful of them making fun of her whether the story was true or false. I also said, I just wanted her to know they were making fun of her when she walked by, smiled and waved at them.

My manager sat there with astonishment as I roasted "him and the boys on my team".
I was sincere that this was disrespectful and I wanted her to know. My manager was fired less than a year later and my understanding is he has never worked since. I stay in touch with a person at the company.

OP is that the kind of vengeance you are asking about? It worked for me and I still feel good about it 20 years later.

If they’re an a-hole to you as it is, then trust me when I say they aren’t going to do you any favors later in life. Full stop. So do as you want if it makes you feel better. But realize whatever you say won’t make a difference to them. They’ll wake up the next day not even thinking twice about what you say. Impossible to change this late in life.

I’ve had good and bad bosses. I have always been compensated well with opportunities to see and do things most people haven’t. Shake some hands and walk away with a smile.

Everyone talking about coming back to Chevron again, rehire box, etc. C’mon. Let’s get real. That would be the d-mbest thing ever. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.

I suspect this would give them the last laugh - take the money and run, leave em guessing!

I'd rather have that "eligible for rehire" box checked in case I ever need to come back versus momentarily hurting someone's feelings.

OP - Use Chat GPT to write a letter, that tells them how bad they are, without telling them how bad they are.

My manager isn’t the best but they aren’t the worst either. I’d thank them and move on. I’m lucky that in wells I work with excellent teams though.

Yes, you go ahead and do that. Your manager absolutely knows no one at any other company that looks for references and info behind your back. Have at it. The other people looking for jobs say thank you.

I would not say anything and just leave gracefully. That can speak volumes in these type situations. Plus, if you don’t have all your cash and benefits you might be putting those at risk, and finally the oil business is small and good chances are you will run into your manager somewhere else down the road.

Don't burn bridges by having a go at your current useless manager. They will not always be in position and you may want to come back to Chevron one day.
Having said that why you would come to this sh** show I beyond me.

Seems a little childish. If you are indeed laid off, keep your composure, do the needed steps to close out everything, and begin your next adventure.
