Can anyone chime in on how severance work these days? Tenure? Anyone negotiate? Do they pay out PTO? (esp. folks who were never allowed to actually use PTO) Negotiate?

@hd they will just tell you it’s not negotiable. You have a couple weeks to accept or the offer will go away.
@db i personally was laid off at a time no others were due to a department shift. If it’s not a layoff and I wasn’t fired, then what would it be called?
Have you seen or heard of Nike rescinding the severance package because someone attempted to negotiate?
I am a former HR employee who has conducted several exit conversations.
Severance is not negotiable. There is a chart that determines how many weeks you will get paid based on tenure and job level. Take it or leave it.
PTO is paid out upon departure.
@dq clearly forgot your brain today but it’s Wednesday. Holding on to documentation of illegal activity for 3 years would make you just as bad. Does lacking morals and ethics work better?

@cj if you don't hear about it, it's not a layoff. People aren't getting straight up fired which is different than a layoff
@ch I agree. Be thankful if you are offered a severance package (if you are) as it’s not something they’re required to offer.
@c1 layoffs are happening weekly. You just may not hear about them, and it may be a group of people or just a single person at a time. Nobody is safe at any given time.
Anyone who thinks they are going to negotiate a package that you are not entitled to in order to get something more is legit insanity / stupidity. Nike offers a great package vs other companies and people will tell you that who have had them. Don’t risk messing up a good thing because you will regret if they say ok take nothing then bye.
BTW- any lawyer will tell you this as well.

Good luck negotiating for more unless you have a legitimate lawsuit over them. Severance is take it or leave it. They don’t have to pay you anything.
depends on pay level and tenure. unused PTO is paid out, sabbatical hours are not. i absolutely plan on negotiating for more.
