Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Is this for real??? Or some impractical joke???

I started a role 3 months back from Ohio, I had to relocate for the role to Boston per contract (which I did at my own expense)

However, I had asked if I can instead relocate to Westlake as I have family there, for which I said No.

This morning my manager told me, my position will be moved to Westlake.

You can't seriously be kidding with this BS?????

I now have 3 months to find a new role within fidelity or let my snake of a manager know in two weeks if I'll be able to relocate to Westlake (at my own expense again)

Fidelity has become a joke!!!!! I wish I took some of the other posts seriously before taking up the offer.

@b6 I haven't worked at Fidelity in years' but I could see management spinning the story by calling these "mobility" opportunities" and adding it to their list of achievements on their next self-assessment.

I am in the FI world and was asked to move to the Smithfield, RI office but declined. From my research it seems Rhode Island is an expensive yet decaying/dying state compared to NC.

The ultimate in musical chairs would be telling the people in MMK that they have to move to Boston or Smithfield because that commute is insane. Even worse would be having to move to Taxachusetts where no one can afford a place to live. At least if asked to move to Raleigh or Westlake you get a big house for less money.

Once your new hire offer is signed, and your start date with the new company is finalized, block off all the Fidelity vacation time you've accrued that you're able to take, directly before your start date at the new place. If your current creep manager needs a reason for why you're taking time off, tell them that it's regarding arrangements for moving. Again, this isn't a lie, because you are moving, just not where they think you're going!

Enjoy your time off before starting at your new job. Bask in the sun, day-drink, whatever best helps you to unwind. Ignore any and all pings/emails/texts/calls/calendar invites, etc. from anyone at Fidelity (especially your manager) during this time off...really decompress. On the last day of your "vacation" time, get into your work stuff online and save anything personal you want to keep, and delete anything you don't want remaining. Don't forget to d-load personal timesheets, your financial/tax info., & contacts: both external and internal (especially those for various internal IT and HR teams/individuals). Double check that you've gotten everything, because as soon as you do what's next on the list here, your access might be cut off.

Now you're ready for the biggie: Email your manager, while cc-ing your manager's boss and HR, letting them know that you are resigning, effective immediately.

You don't have to give a reason, you don't have to give 2 weeks' notice, you don't have train any replacement or transfer any files, you don't have to fill out an "exit survey" or take part in an "exit interview." Just say that you're finished with working at Fidelity, and prefer to not discuss it any further. Cut'em all off, clean. You then never have to step foot into any Fidelity office, ever again. From then on, refer any of your manager's subsequent inquires to HR and otherwise ignore them entirely. Their drama and sadistic game-playing is not for you to deal with anymore. You've liberated yourself. Only communicate electronically with HR at this point re: wrapping things up, returning badge/laptop, e-signing any other required offboarding paperwork, arranging for last pay, and that's it! You're FREE!

(And you d!cked-over your d!ick manager, in the process.)
Let them squirm to figure out at the last minute how they're going to fill your position/re-assign your work, etc. LOL

Your manager is being a d!ck, so now's your time to d!ck over your manager, instead of allowing your manager to once again, d!ck over you.

In exactly 2 weeks (don't give them the comfyness of knowing your decision even one day sooner), notify your manager that you're able to relocate to Westlake. This isn't a lie, since technically, you are able to do so (except you have no intention to do so, and won't be doing so, obviously.) That will start the wheels in motion for your sadistic manager to do whatever they feel like getting into play, regarding you and your position. Let them scheme and scam all they want...none of their fiendish plotting will have anything to do with you, your career, or life, moving forward. They don't know this yet, but you do. You hold the cards for your future, they don't.

How long is your manager estimating it'll be, before you'd be expected to relocate? More than 3 months? Good! That gives you that much more time to land a new position with a new company, and you can do this. So do it. Focus all of your time and energy you have now, to getting a new job somewhere else. Apply relentlessly. Network like you've never networked before. Don't stop until you've signed a new hire offer elsewhere.

You're probably not along.

Wealth is plagued with colocation updates with people being asked to move from:
Boston to NC
NC to MMK
Covington to Westlake
Westlake to Boston

Instead of changing your team to align you with team in the same region (which will be more practical), they're instead fixated on playing musical chair with associates.

Quite sadistic, IMHO. These seem the same people who were probably bullied in middle / high school and come up with these tactics to cause chaos.

Fidelity seems to keep finding innovative ways to make lives miserable for associates as well as make others in the same situation go through stress, anxiety and uncertainty.

To me it sounds like your manager is a grade A A-hole.

The fact that Fido has such "intelligent species" people's manager is amusing

@OP fidelity fu---d around with me last year. Loyal 25 1/2 year employee. Luckily for me I was already set and planned to retire this month. After getting the run around from a dum--ss director in Covington I had a come to Jesus meeting with fidelity. Used every word in the book and quit. Remember Fidelity doesn’t give two sh--s about you.
