Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

How long before this is all over?

How long are they going to keep us guessing? Until more of us decide we can’t take the uncertainty anymore and quit? It wouldn’t be the first time Exxon tried to force employees to leave by creating an environment that basically pushed people out. I don’t know if this is one of those cases, but I wouldn’t be surprised.

@cb be careful with such precision in your retirement countdown. Years ago I worked with a guy who had a big countdown calendar in his office he always talked about and made jokes over. Sure enough, he had a fatal heart attack with one month to go. Poor fvcker

@jv we were told name list will be out by mid Dec. they decided to release the news to us earlier, so that there will not be all these crazy speculation (like what's happening to US now). now, the wait is exceptionally long, there's so much uncertainty and people aren't very motivated, but I appreciate the local management's decision.

How are our colleagues in Singapore now? Have the list been communicated? I wonder when is the earliest the list can be communicated. I reckon it does not feel good to be in your position at this moment because the dust has not been settled. I feel so bad for everyone to have to undergo this.

@cb, writing is on the wall. The company wants you gone and this is the way. Good on you for having a plan to leave when you’re RE, because management doesn’t care. Remember that…they don’t care about you. Don’t listen to the lies. EM wants your productivity and nothing more. After you leave they’ll find another employee (likely in India) to fill your space and move on like you were never there.

@fv so it’s in a couple of years and not by this year or within the next 6 months? There were quite a few saying here last week that US is within the next few months and I would like people who are in the know to share

I had a boss in Houston flat out say that based on the tea leaves that expect Houston impacts in a couple of years. They were being frank given the lack of notice to most of leadership. I fully expect an exxodus in the Houston workforce. There's a number of people I know that are already actively applying and interviewing for jobs. Control your future and look out for yourself and your family. Don't let your future be dictated to you

I am actually very tired with no motivation to work. Is like a waiting game. I will rather they get it confirmed and over with so that I can decide what I want to do moving forward.

For me it's over in 2 years plus a few days. 745 days to be exact and 4 hours. I will be hopefully one of the lucky ones that will get out with medical and my lump sum. For the rest who knows because it is getting harder to stay employed. Exxon has worn me down with pestering and harassment from the glorious leaders. This is what exxon wants to get you so mad that you leave on your own. Everyday I come into this he-l I want to quit. Nothing I do is ever good enough or done they way they want it. They say I need to be more proactive or interact with colleagues more. The problem is none of the colleagues want to cooperate and collaborate. I try but nothing happens. Everyone is afraid of sharing ideas and someone stealing their glory. So the competitive nature of the ranking games just makes everyone hide out in a silo. It's like exxon wants me to force the dysfunctional employees to work with me. I asked how do i this and was told to copy their supervisor on the request. This of course made the colleagues very angry at me. I cannot win because now my colleagues won't help me and my supervisor won't as well. I am NI now and expect to be NSI next year cycle. I don't know how young employees will make 10 or more years at exxon. It is getting worse every year.

This is exactly how I feel here in Clinton. They were supposed to release an Equipment Move Schedule at the end of September, which would help give us techs (who, like Sarnia, have no option to move and are just going to be discarded) at least SOME sort of idea of when our layoffs might be.

Have they released that schedule? Nope. Yet, NALI folks are popping into a few random labs to start the process, and telling lab techs to stay out of the way during impromptu decom meetings. You know, not like the person running said unit/instrument might know the best about it or anything. eye roll

So yes...the guessing, the dragging things out without the slightest bit of transparency is getting to a lot of people in both tech and MTS roles.

The funny thing is they havent done their homework. KLTC and BTC cant do engineering for them without a canadian PE and stamp. So they will be forced to involve Canadian one way or another and pay….

Our friends up north gave us a lunch and learn on canadian regulations and they are tight. Can see lawsuits and regulators getting involved.
