Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Wells Fargo HR department received complaint that employees or contractors are performing multiple jobs during Office hours

Please be aware that Wells Fargo is reviewing employment records in the background to ensure that no employees or contractors are working multiple jobs in violation of company policy.

The HR department has already initiated the background‑check process and is expected to take action soon

@qg You can make the worknumber data private. I'm not sure to what degree though, it might just be pay info.

All they have to do is check to see if unemployment insurance is being paid by another employer for you &/or check with The Work Number and they will know if you have another job.

@ch I would have to agree with this because they sure aren’t doing their WF job during the day.

During Covid, when we all had to WFH I used to work with a very incompetent contractor at Wells. He didn’t even know basics of Excel but was supporting priority 1 regulator projects. He was always pleasant but I always had to fix his many errors. He would sometimes hint that he wanted to get together and meet in person but I was weary because he was so bad at his job. Then one day, on a call with just the 2 of us, he told me he was running his own side business during company hours and he invited me to join his business. Turns out he was recruiting people from WF to build his clientele. If he were competent at his job, I wouldn’t have been upset. I was tempted to report him, but I was being bullied by his Wells boss, so I just tried to stay out of his way. He left on his own for another opportunity. He told me that the Wells Fargo contract work was his side hustle. He was probably raking in $180_ $200k annually from his side hustle.

This can be fixed by bringing everyone back to the office where the people around you are on their own geographically distributed teams and paying absolutely no attention to what you're doing. Meanwhile your manager is in some other office, if not working from home entirely, just looking at reports of your mouse click activity. Yes, RTO will fix this.

That’s probably a common occurrence in India.

@c9 It's amazing how little the employees trust the company.

Nothing to stop people from bringing in their own laptop and doing another job while in office. No wonder the do nothings are so eager to grab one of those meeting rooms every day.

All that matters is if the WF work is being done. If a person can meet expectations but simultaneously work 14 other jobs, why would you ever investigate/terminate what is clearly the most brilliant mind in the office?!

This is probably true in the sense that OP was the bitter weirdo who filed the complaint in the first place

@OP. This is how you should have written this: Wells Fargo HR Internal Memo (Leaked to the Public)
Posted by: "Wells Fargo HR – Compliance & Employee Surveillance Division"

We’ve received a very serious complaint: some of our valued team members may be working multiple jobs during office hours. While we deeply respect your dedication to the workforce, we must emphasize: one job per employee is the standard at Wells Fargo.

To ensure compliance, HR has launched a full-scale background-check initiative. This includes reviewing employment records, cross-checking with payroll systems, and — for the truly ambitious — verifying whether you’re actually in the office during business hours.

Cost Breakdown (Funded by 2025 Holiday Party Budget):

$50 per employee for background check verification
$10 per employee for "employee trust assessment"
$200 for the HR team’s coffee and snacks during the audit process
$100 for the "we’re not laughing, we’re serious" motivational poster
We’re not asking you to self-report — we’re checking. And yes, if you’re working a second job, we’ll know. If you’re not in the office, we’ll know. If you’re using your Wells Fargo email to apply for jobs at other banks, we’ll know.

But don’t worry — this is all for your own good. And the holiday party? It’s still on. We’ll just be eating cake while we watch your LinkedIn profile.

This is not a drill. This is not a test. This is not a joke. (But it probably should be.)

@OP

Wait, wait, wait...according to the bootlicker brigade, all of this was stopped with the RTO mandate.

You mean to tell me that they were wrong? Makes one wonder what other inaccuracies they spew.
