Thread regarding Synopsys Inc. layoffs

Salarié.e.s de Synopsys en France, mobilisons-nous ! Synopsys employees in France, let’s swing into action!

A few days ago, we got the news about Synopsys’ plan to lay off 70 employees of Ansys France. According to a comment on thelayoff.com, there will be another 30 of them planned at Synopsys France.
These layoffs are avoidable. We have the power to coerce the company into foregoing them, by means of a massive, renewable strike.

We have created a Signal chatroom for better collaboration. Read all the details in this document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qUlsZjDHbJ49KPenYlJnq_MP4VYjaadGPVV1E6lvIn8/edit?usp=sharing

@c4 sc--w the future headcount. IMO if you don't fight for yourself, you are giving them the option to lay you off AND not give future headcount. Worry about your own well-being first.

In this economy, companies who treat employees as disposable will be treated as such. Period.

@dz In France, the right to strike is constitutionally protected, and employees cannot be legally punished for exercising it. If an individual has strong reason to believe they were pushed out of a company due to their labor activism or social commitment, they can file a lawsuit for wrongful termination.

However, companies may still attempt to find subtle, non-obvious ways to retaliate against these employees—especially in workplaces that lack a labor union or a sufficiently proactive CSE. Unfortunately, within the software engineering industry, we often fail to recognize our collective bargaining power and can be too complacent to organize effectively.

As OP suggested, if we want to pressure a company to either abandon layoffs or improve severance conditions, the action must be collective and massive to prevent individuals from being targeted for retaliation.

@c9 I'm not sure the laws in France, but even if you did this couldn't they just stop giving raises, RSU and other company benefits? Couldn't they demote people they don't want around or do something similar to a PIP in the US?

@c4 That's possible. Future is hard to predict.
What I'm sure of is the current trend is to reduce headcount everywhere. Letting them do without the slightest resistance in the hope that they will be kind enough to hire again looks like a gamble to me.
Bending over backwards to please a bully does not make them stop.
So yeah, that may have a negative impact on hypothetical future job positions but our current concern should be the future of existing, very real positions.

Don’t you think this may inadvertently resolve Synopsys not to increase French headcount in the future? And do future job creation may just stop with the company in France?
