Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Doesn't feel like Thanksgiving

I don’t feel like I have much to be thankful for right now, and the only thing I keep trying to remind myself of is that at least I don’t have a wife and kids depending on me, because getting laid off would’ve hit even harder if I had a whole family to worry about. It just feels awful that they chose this exact moment to do it, right when the holidays are supposed to make people feel grounded and supported, and I can’t stop thinking about how easily they could’ve waited until January instead of dumping all this stress on everyone now.

@c7 - @"AT&T-IS blew out 25,000 people right after Diverstiture in 1984."

Dark days indeed. I lived through AT&T Information Systems (IS) layoffs and the literally dozens of major rounds of cutbacks at AT&T working there that followed well into the 2000's. When it first began to happen it was literally a feeling disbelief by not only by AT&T employees and their families who were used to the benevolent Bell System work environment but also by Americans at large who couldn't fully grasp that the "contract" of employment for life was over at major companies. IBM soon followed suite and once they did the floodgates opened up on mass corporate layoffs which soon became commonplace.

I remember when AT&T-IS blew out 25,000 people right after diverstiture around 1984. I know as I had to size the universe so I know what they do to prevent lawsuits. They have gotten better at it since then.

@OP I have two friends that are terminally ill. They have money, family, everything, but also have some organs failing. They likely won’t see next Thanksgiving. Last Thanksgiving neither of them saw this coming.

Can you find a few organs, body parts that are really working well for you & be genuinely Thankful for those.

I understand some days are way harder to look at bright side but all we can do is try to find any tiny light that we can.

I'm headed to Plymouth to find the kind-hearted Wampanoag People in the hopes of getting a meal for a man who's down on his luck.

Maybe corporate America will have a change of heart, open their window, and yell down to some street urchin to buy you the biggest goose?

You should be thankful for waking up to see another day. You will be just fine. Verizon doesn't define who you are. Take this time to relax and later on just get your thoughts together and focus on your plan to move forward.
