Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

So how bad is it really to work in Enterprise Operations at HP?

Bad enough that every day feels like a punishment for a choice I barely remember making.
And if I dare complain, Ernest’s voice echoes in my head: “You self-selected for this role.”

The expectations?
They are not expectations. They are shackles.

Seven days a week. Twenty-four hours a day. No pause. No mercy. No life. And still “You self-selected for this role.”
Four jobs crammed into one because people burn out and leave, and replacements never come. Their absence becomes my burden. And still “You self-selected for this role.”
Forced into company charity work, even though my own family barely remembers what I look like. And still “You self-selected for this role.”
Begging for scraps of budget, even with a team of a hundred souls. Every dollar has to pass through Ernest, because we are all assumed to be thieves stealing from his bonus. Because God knows, we will never see one. But of course “You self-selected for this role.”

I missed my son’s entire summer of sports. Every game. Every smile. Every memory.
Gone. Because I was chained here.
I leave home at five in the morning, return after seven at night, and collapse into bed only to wake up still exhausted.
I have fallen asleep in the bathroom at work. I have fallen asleep driving to work.
I confessed this once to my colleagues. You know what they said?
“Do not say anything. Do not make Ernest angry. He does not care.”

And he does not.

We cancelled the VIA because Ernest did not want to hear the complaints.
The job market is brutal, and he knows it. He wears it like armor, like permission to treat us all like dirt. Like criminals. As if respect is too expensive a luxury to waste on us.

Quarterly reviews? Forget it. My boss literally told me to just get AI to generate something. Promotions? Not a chance. Ernest fills jobs from the outside, proudly waving the diversity flag, while those of us drowning here never get pulled from the water.

Every single person in Supply Chain hates their job in Spring.
We are exhausted. We are broken. We bleed for this place, and in return we get nothing. No bonuses. No stock worth anything. Just the knowledge that Ernest collects his fat paycheck on the blood and sweat of our backs.

And the Fire Side Chat?
God. Two hours before, you will hear someone calling this place what it is, a shithole. But once the cameras roll, suddenly it is smiles and empty words about how great it all is.
It is pathetic. It is tragic.
We are so dysfunctional it hurts.

Are these stories spiteful or actually true about the EO leadership ? I don’t know anyone working in the function so I’m not challenging it but it sounds really far fetched . If it is true why does nobody have the courage to stand up either individually or collectively as I what read on a regular basis here simply sounds like work place bullying .. not looking to antagonise so please don’t take it in that way

After reading this post, I understand more about what was going on. After one of the layoffs this summer I left because I just couldn't keep my customers happy anymore. Every solution to an impossible problem that I came up with was just not good enough and I don't blame my customers for that. I was wondering where the VIA survey went, but didn't really need details because it's become very clear that the people running the show at HP no longer really care about the company or the people who work there. I'm just glad that I am only responsible for me and don't have any kids. It gave me their freedom to cut personal costs and leave the company. Hang in there. Thank you for your post

@qf They mean Ernest Nicolas, the head of Enterprise Operations. No one on this thread is wrong. He has yelled at me in meetings over nothing.

“Ernest is Great, Ernest is God” we all chant in unison at the monthly Thank You lunch imposed by an HBCU hire who barely knows how to use a computer, let alone run anything in Excel. We are all servants to the almighty master Ernest; a role reversal he probably gets off on. The work never slows down, and the expectations pick up every day. Oh, you will hear meaningless L4s excited that Ernest pushes them to their limits, while he’s busy ba----g the girl he walks around with and we all suffer as our family and health begin to suffer so that Ernest can continue his crusade of destroying the company through diversity.

“Ernest is Great, We are So Thankful” we all chant in unison as forces us onto our hands and knees to show our loyalty to the almighty Company and its Shareholders. Yet another day working at a formerly impressive company, torn down and rotted to its core by agenda-driven Napoleon-complex-having men.

Are you on the wrong HP page again??

This is the message board for HP NOT HPE!!!

You mention Ernest which is the CEO of HPE, not HP

Go find your own message board to complain on.

While everyone enjoyed their labor day, I worked. Yes, I world all day. Just like the other posters on here, I had to work on my ME day and say I didn't but I had to because I self selected for this job. I am way past burnt out but I have to pay the rent just like everyone else. The term Self-Selected has become such a joke in EO that whenever someone uses it, we all know it means we sold our soul and are in slave labor conditions with no salary increases and no bonus options. If we get any bonus, it will probably be funded at some jokingly low percentage while the c-suite get millions. Did you see the CFO's bonus structure? If you watched the AEM last time she presented, you would have thought it was an SNL skit but no, it was real. In the future, it would be better if we just use an AI avatar to represent her but no matter what, she will live remotely, never come in the office and collect millions. Nice job if you can get it.

I’m going to have to agree with @c6 on this one. You’re approaching self-inflicted pain. I won’t say, “Stop complaining.” because I understand your struggle. It is certainly a choice to leave. I left HP in Spring a couple years ago. I was in engineering… oh excuse me… “architecture”.

I never want to work in big tech ever again. I’m enjoying my much smaller company making considerably more money. I very much enjoy my new company. I get to speak to our CTO on a regular basis and my words bring a lot of influence. Nothing is outsourced here. Manufacturing is done in Houston in a factory right below my office space.

It feels good to be out of HP. I encourage you to get out. Anyone who works for a company that only makes commodities is really harming their career.

What’s most disheartening is the complete lack of trust within this company. We’ve been stripped of any real authority every decision requires approval, no matter how minor. It makes you wonder why we’re even here. Like many others, I’ve started exploring opportunities elsewhere, and if the right offer comes along, I won’t be sticking around for a two-week notice. I’ll be gone the day it’s made. Loyalty doesn’t thrive where trust no longer exists.

Labor Day weekend has been particularly challenging. While my husband and son traveled to Galveston on Friday, I remained behind due to work obligations. I'm currently operating with a team that's short by three people, and the backlog has become overwhelming.

As the original poster noted and it is thrown in my face every managers meeting that I self selected for this punishment. I used my ME day to work a full 14-hour shift, trying to stay ahead.

My husband continues to encourage me to consider taking a leave of absence, especially since my physician has already advised that I need to take meaningful steps to manage my blood pressure and weight. It’s becoming increasingly clear that a change may be necessary for my long-term health but that would just take us down another person compounding the already stressed and fractured team even more.

I'm not the one who wrote this… but I might as well have. It’s the same hellish story.
There’s nothing out there. Not for people like me. Not anymore.
I’ve got a family to feed, people who depend on me, and yet I’m stuck in this place that’s slowly draining the life out of me. I can’t just leave as much as I want to.
God, I wish it were as simple as finding another job.
But it isn’t. It never is. The job market is not good especially in the Montgomery area.
EO used to be bad… but now? It’s some kind of cruel joke. A twisted circus. Every request, every tiny thing, wrapped in so much red tape you start to forget what you even asked for. Just this hollow ache.
This isn’t work.
This is survival.
And I’m tired.

@OP - Got news for ya. You're the fool for staying. Stop whining and crying, and instead find something else outside of HP.
