Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Is this really possibel?

Today I heard from a source that's been pretty accurate so far that another 8,000 might be shown the door in February. Can it be?

There are SO MANY utterly useless employees at this company, we could fire 20K and all we would get is lower overhead, faster/better decision making, and greater efficiency.

@er that’s why we call him Hatchet Man. These layoffs were a hatchet job

@c5 it could have been done with more purpose and focus instead of blindly swinging the axe. We lost a lot of talent and we've kept a lot of useless lumps.

@aj 2000 employees in India were just laid off. Is this what you’re referring to?

He may missed a boatload of useless overpaid mgmnt in BR. Cut some more upper mgmnt. Why pay half a million plus to send award emails???

@OP There’s always probability considering Frontier has ~16k employees. Maybe as part of the deal, no Frontier will be axed. So to balance, remove 16k with some change from Vz. However, just remember Mutphy’s law. Do not worry at the end of the day.

It’s likely to happen…you’ve got overlapping functions with Frontier…you’ve got increased use of AI and whatever is happening with International too will take headcount off the books…8,000 might be an underestimate in fact

@OP I’ve been with wireline for 28 years as a tech in New England. Nobody wants to see an anybody get laid off But the amount of incompetence in this company is mind blowing. They’ve promoted people over the years who shouldn’t even work here never be mind be promoted. They have created this culture of no accountability, terrible customer service. They’re more worried about volunteering their company time then doing their job. 🤡.
These cuts were long overdue. The company needs to be saved from all these poor company decisions over the last 15years.
The reality is the wireless Network needs some help. $$$
The company has acquired a lot of debt with all these poor decisions. Vodafone! Yahoo! Etc
The company cannot afford to cut its dividend because that’s the only thing keeping this stock from falling off a cliff.
Dan needed to make these cuts in order to get this company heading in the right direction He needs to raise money and this pretty much his last resort.

A lot of dead weight still remains in the office jobs. Even with the cuts and guilt free vacations, there is still plenty of time to decorate cubes for the holidays and make Spotify playlists.

Doesn't make up the full 8,000 but it seems the ~2,000 people in International will be part of that.

Easily could be that many. Most stores will likely be jettisoned.

Feb would be the 30day notice for March cuts, so anything is possible.

I heard more layoffs will happen Q1 2026. I actually heard it would be March, not February, but I suppose anything is possible. Hatchet man wants the company to be lean and “ scrappy” like a startup. Layoffs will be happening on a regular basis.
