2 Week Notice, Curtesy or Requirement???

When an employee resigns from Oracle, are they required to give two weeks notice?

If I leave without providing notice, are there any consequences or forfeited benefits?

In my 30 years at Oracle when an employee gave me two weeks notice, I wished them luck and in most cases there was not a need for a transition, so that would be there last day. No need to have them on the payroll for two weeks when not needed. Also a risk to the company if they have access to internal systems.

Any company who has the ability to layoff with no notice, doesn’t deserves notice. No more notice!!!

@c1 this is untrue. Two weeks notice is business as usual.

Why resign when you can get laid off?

It's completely irrelevant. They will walk you out the door the minute you give 'notice'.

2 weeks is considered professional courtesy. I would do it so as not to burn bridges and maintain my professional reputation.

In US, always leave on the first day of the month. You keep healthcare for the rest of the month.

As for no notice, I would give 2-3 weeks notice and then close the laptop and not perform any work thereafter. That’s the Oracle standard.

@OP

At minimum, providing a two-week notice is generally required to remain eligible for rehire, as many companies mark employees as "ineligible" if they leave without proper notice. While not legally mandated in most cases, it is a common company policy to ensure a smooth transition. If a 'burnt bridge' is acceptable, go for it.

Does your employee handbook require it? Are you at an at will employment state?

Depends on country and management
