RTO has got to go

AT&T would face a lot less resistance to change if leadership finally dropped the RTO obsession. Most of us support performance-based expectations and accountability, but the forced return and relocation policies have turned the majority of employees against upper management.

You can’t rebuild trust while punishing the workforce. People aren’t resisting change, they’re resisting bad leadership. Until that changes, you’ll keep getting the bare minimum effort and zero loyalty in return.

Base rankings on performance and output. If managers are only putting in 40 hours per week, this is the bare minimum. Rank them lower.

@cg wow! Thanks!.. that’s actually even more than I thought who work from home or remotely. What’s the number that work in a Hybrid 2-3 days model? 60%?.. that means only 5% work in an office 5 days a week? 5% is an industry standard now? That’s a corner case..

No, false. 35% is what the Bureau of Labor Statistics and Pew Research reported June 2025 as American workers who now work from home or remotely.
It doesn't help to try to skew the numbers. Facts matter.

@c0 77% of companies still operate in fully WFH or Hybrid models, not 5x RTO. 0 or 3 days is the standard. And for the “industry” standard it’s the same. Zero other telecom companies are 5 days. Every time you say this I’ll call it out as it’s utterly false.

Just because people aren’t leaving in droves due to RTO doesn’t mean they are engaged or happy. It doesn’t take long to find plenty of data macro showing people hate RTO and are as disengaged with their jobs as they have ever been. They are staying here and at other companies like Amazon that are pulling this cr@p because finding any sort of job now is extremely difficult.

Between the constant layoffs and contradiction of our “purpose” vs the in-office requirement, AT&T leadership is doing everything it can to drive down morale. Based on the internal survey and things like the Forbes data, they’re doing a good job

Rising unemployment means people are laser focused on retention of lifestyle, which typically means ensuring they stay employed so that they can cover their living expenses.
The threat of losing one's livelihood usually outweighs less critical factors.
You're correct, a RTO mandate has zero to do with rising unemployment!

Im like, the new employee work force. You can tell by the way i dont bother to shave. i brush my teeth only 3x a week, and doing anything with my hair is optional and really only when i’m meeting an unshaved armpit girl after work on a thursday before heading to moms basement to watch cnn with her. Att pays me well because im the opposite of who they just fired. I take days off to protest orange man because my skin is paper thin and my ball$$ are the size of miniature raisins. Rto is ok necause I raid the refrigerator and free snacks and spend the night under a cubicle. I splash like a bird in the bathrooms to refresh before the day begins and I am praised endlessly for my hip new reflection of the new ATT. Afterwards me and the basket weaving loud mouth rub our peanuts together and praise this new beginning of insanity, and corporate marxism,

Rising unemployment means there are thousands of talented and qualified people seeking work and a paycheck. The pool of available potential workers are in the DFW area as well as all paths in between. And those people are praying you open up an opportunity to take your place, trust me.
No doubt making a move for a job requires careful consideration. However, no one should think for a nanosecond that their skill and presence cannot be replaced. You know, capitalism and all that.
No shade thrown here. Just indisputable facts.

Nothing to do with Regress To Office policies. Furthermore, just because there is rising unemployment, doesn’t mean it’s worth someone’s while to move to Dallas on their own dime. Read that again.
Also, even if they are willing to move themselves from Ohio to Texas, doesn’t mean they’re qualified. Capiche ?

The unemployment numbers in the country are rising daily--now more than 7.5 million unemployed.
There are literally thousands of people ready and willing to take your job, work in an office daily and drive over 100 miles one way to ensure they have a paycheck for themselves and their families.
You certainly have a right to stand on 'your principles' and vow to continue to complain about RTO and your perceived mistreatment because you resent the corporate policy. And ATT can certainly enforce the RTO policy whether you hold your breath in defiance or write about it incessantly here.

But make no mistake about it, ATT will survive without you whether it's tomorrow or within the next 5-10 years.
We're all dispensable, even you.

I believe when employees find no redeeming qualities in their employer, whether it's their leadership, corporate decisions, policies, affiliations, culture, etc. those employees should find other opportunities because they bring no value to the corporation and other employees.

You can’t force the new generation into an outdated model. They want flexibility and they’re leaving in droves for companies that actually offer it. Meanwhile, leadership keeps talking about “collaboration” while half the work is still outsourced overseas where people continue to work from home without issue. What makes it OK there but not here?

Everyone’s done with RTO and silently waiting for a change. Everyone just passes time in the office until the 8 hours alarm goes off. The only people still showing up every day are the ones stuck waiting on their pension because they don’t have a choice. Everyone else is quietly job hunting or mentally checked out.

RTO and COBC “violations” are just the new way to fire people without paying severance. The double standard is insane. All the teams overseas still work from home, but we’re told we need to be in the office for “collaboration.” Collaboration on what? Conference calls?

People are tired, burned out, and done playing along. This isn’t about performance, it’s about control. And it’s backfiring.

@b7 working an extra 3 hours or more instead of sitting in traffic. When I worked from home for over 10 years I used to log in periodically after work from 5PM to 10PM, or even work straight through to 10 if I wanted to get something done. Now I log off at 3 and the laptop doesn’t even leave my car. The work piles up now instead of getting done, but they don’t care about that, just seat warmers to appease their Blackrock overlords.
