@bz It's not accounting. It's also not realistic.

1) How many lawsuits were filed when then just finished terminating 15,000 employees, many with 20+ years of service. None that I know of. If you don't think VZ lawyers look at this, you are very naive. It's also why you have to sign a severance agreement. Most people will sign rather than go through a long-protracted court proceeding which may end in $0.

2) Don't know why you think March is flight-risk month. You can leave any time after 12/31 and get your full year STI. You don't need to wait until March.

2) It takes way more than 2 weeks to plan and carry out a VSP. Last one took over 4 months of planning. Additionally, the last VSP only snagged about 4000 people. If they are set on 5,000, that's not the way to go.

3) Having a VSP so close to a RIF would invite way more lawsuits than #1. In prior VSPs they retroactively updated the RIFs just prior to it to the same terms. That certainly won't happen with 15,000 people.

4) At this point, it makes way more operational sense to RIF than VSP because they can target the areas where they want to reduce headcount. It's also much cheaper.

5) Lists always exist. Vz has done RIFs pretty much on a monthly basis for years. They are just small and don't get much attention.

I don't believe that VZ will EVER have another VSP. They are heading to a 75,000 headcount, in my opinion. But I guess you can continue to hope.

Staff VSP is gone. You will get two week for every year of service. That’s it. Executives will continue to get executive big buyouts and retainers.

I'm hoping for 10 weeks pay/benefits for every year of service plus lifetime subscription to Hans's premium Daily Mood Tracker tools and podcast.

Actually, the math for a March VSP checks out. Here's why.

Stop downvoting the OP. If you look at the calendar and the new Org Structure, a VSP in March isn't just a "rumor"—it’s the only strategic move that makes sense for the new leadership.

  1. The "Alfonso" Factor (Legal Shield) We just got a "Chief Transformation Officer" (Alfonso) whose job is to modernize the workforce. You can't fire 5,000 legacy employees (many 20+ years tenure) without inviting a massive Age Discrimination Class Action. The only legal way to clear that headcount quickly is a Voluntary Separation Package. It buys them immunity.

  2. The "Post-Bonus" Window STI hits accounts on Feb 27. Corporate knows March is the #1 month for "Flight Risk."

The Play: Launch a VSP in mid-March.

The Logic: You capture the people who were already thinking of leaving after their bonus. It’s cleaner and faster than a forced RIF.

  1. The "List" Already Exists Notice the chaos with the "Sales Contest" emails this week? They accidentally invited Support/Ops, then immediately "corrected" it to exclude us. That proves they have actively scrubbed lists separating "Revenue Generators" (Safe) from "Cost Centers" (Targets). If you are in Ops/Support, you are on the second list.

The Prediction: Watch Thursday, March 12 or Thursday, March 19. It gives them 2 weeks to run the program and get the books cleared before Q2 starts in April.

It’s not hopeium. It’s just accounting.
