Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Why are you still here?

Knowing what's coming, seeing the state of Intel, why are you still here? Do you think you're safe? Personally, I'm here because I haven't been able to land anything good so far, but I've been trying to leave for nearly a year. As soon as I do, I'll be gone and never think about this place again.

Well, I've been looking real hard and I'm trying to find a job but it just keeps getting tougher every day. But I got to do my part, cause I know in my heart I got to please my sweet baby, yeah. Well, I ain't superstitious and I don't get suspicious but my woman is a friend of mine. And I know that it's true that all the things that I do will come back to me in my sweet time.

@bz I’m stuck here and sad since I can’t find another job and surely within the next year will be laid off. Wife salary can’t pay the bills and will be forced to move and sell my house at a discount prices whether I like it or not. So we go through the motions of working for a sh-t company until it is ends. Trying to brush up my skills and sent resumes to other companies out of Portland but majority just ignored. Had 1 interviewer that asked why I am at Intel all these years? And what is special that you learned that is state of the art? Couldn’t answer it since I know from my friends elsewhere we operate at dinasaur speed and 15 years behind in our tools and technology.

I have been looking for about 6 months now. i have gotten a few calls but nothing has worked out. I am a senior SWE and getting calls back has been a struggle. I have not worked here for too long so that cannot be the problem. I am getting anxious by the day

@a9 if you use terms like "bigly" the job market will always su-k for you.

If you have been at the company for a while and perform well, you will make more than you can get elsewhere when you factor in cost of living. Also, my mortgage is under 3% fixed rate for next 10 years. Makes no sense to go to higher cost of living area and reset that rate to 7ish. My wife has a good job and son likes his school. At this rate I'll stick around and hope things recover. Also, I still do care about the company and work with good people.

@bv Hey I’m a worthless piece of $hit too. Tried to get out of Intel for years, but not seriously. Now my career is ruined like yours.

Best thing for us to do would be to get a 2nd job, perhaps in another industry, until someone finds out. And until they do, laugh knowing that you make more than your workaholic manager who is obsessed with doing performative work.

I mean, I'm still here because I love my job. I'm proud of the work my team does and I've never had another position with the benefits and work/life balance that Intel provides.

@bv; It's not a bad decision working several positions within one company. Intel laying off has nothing to do with most people that worked there. It's a job, people liked doing their jobs, they became part of the community, they had kids going to school.

It can be a bad decision to uproot a happy family to get a few more bucks every few years.

It honestly pathetic how many people are saying that without Intel their lives are nothing and how they are completely dependent and such a cr-ppy company. You guys definitely made some bad decisions in life and I am here to enjoy reading that. You kind of deserve it for being very mediocre.

I’m in Portland. There are no other jobs here other than giving handjobs at the encampment. I can’t leave cause my kids are in school and my wife has a job here.
Intel has ki-led my career but in reality I have ki-led it by staying here. I have friends in Seattle and Bay Area and they say it is tough there but when they describe how they work I know that Intel is a dinosaur and that is how they look at me. No company elsewhere will hire me.

Get your credit score up, increase credit limits, get an EIN number, get a business bank account, and have a side hustle before jumping ship.
