Is it normal to feel completely and utterly burnt out, to the point where even the thought of work gives you anxiety? I can’t find another job, I can’t afford to just quit, so I’m stuck, and I don’t know how much more of this I can take without seriously damaging my mental health.

Feeling the same thing, the exact same burnt out and anxiety, everyday…
@bv The fact you are on this website tells me they aren't helping that much.
Feeling exactly the same.
It’s okay and normal to feel anxiety and burnt out. It is called being human.
I take medication for my mental health but it’s because I have mental health with and without this job. While I can say certain things and scenarios can be so extreme they feel like they mak the medications useless, it doesn’t mean I don’t need the medication.
There is mental health and there is mental health onset by a given environment or peer.
My suggestion is to speak to a doctor or psychiatrist. Stay the he-l away from therapists. They are not trained to deal with true mental health patients. They can’t tell the difference and, in my opinion, they are not qualified to “treat” people truly dealing with actual mental health that requires medication to find some sort of stability in day to day life.
Best of luck.
@ff Let’s not normalize dr-gging ourselves for corporate gain
The sheer volume of people suggesting to get on meds for anxiety/depression in order to deal with the insanity of this workplace is wild. Is it normal to have some “Sunday Scaries?” Yes. Is it normal to have daily existential dread and feel wildly stressed, overwhelmed, and crippled by your workplace? No. Unfortunately, it’s the norm in my market (West Coast).
I have worked other places and still had the “Sunday Scaries” but the level of burnout, exhaustion, and resulting mental and physical health challenges is unmatched.
@et
Yes and no. Should not need meds just because of a job, but if things are that bad maybe starting meds will put the person in a better mind set to make changes in order to get to better a place / situation.
If feeling better then ability see ways to make moves (different department, different company, ect) will come much easier and there will be more energy to make those changes.
Am I the only one who thinks you shouldn’t have to take psychotropic medication just to make it to your job?
Yes it's normal.
SSRI’s can really help, but unfortunately they cannot change the source of your anxiety. Speaking from experience.
Feeling the same. On meds to deal with this place.
Your mental health is most important! Get some anxiety meds; they do help!
Experiencing the same thing. Trying very hard to exit this job but it is extremely difficult to find other opportunities
@OP please take care of your mental health - see someone and get on meds if needed. I did so last year and while things are still stressful I’m better equipped to deal with them. good luck!
100%
Me too. Feeling the same.
