Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

$54

How low can it go? Why is Nike so unpopular? What needs to change for it to go up again?

@OP I have been Nike dealer since 1980, when Jimmy Carter was President.
And this week, I just submitted 4th quarter futures order.
I went through Nike.net up and down and front and back. And there was not one style
that I said "wow, this is it!" That kind of tells you about status of Nike today and it is reflected in stock price.
I remember in the eighties and nineties and early 2000s when every time I went to Nike presentation and I said to myself, "that is a winner" multiple times, every quarter.
Nike have not come out anything that is considered signature shoes since "Ronaldo" soccer cleats which is 2014 Brazil World Cup. In meantime, all Nike did was recycle retro shoes and play Frankenstein and put AJ3 sole with AJ 10 front and all that shenanigans and overcharge d-mb young kids until that ran out of steam.

My diagnosis about Nike's downfall is after long time of success in their hubris they though that their sh-t did not smell bad at all. And they decided to do everything themselves and make extra money per item.
So they got rid of all the dealers including independent dealers. And laid off all the staff talented or not and replace it with spreadsheet then to AI. Put talentless money counter like JD in charge.
I don't think NIke has any designers with their own initiative to come out something different or the environment from top is such that no talented designer wants to come out with something different and expose themselves.
As of now, based on what I saw until the end of this year, I don't see any hope for Nike.

And Nike should be kicked out of DJ30. And that would be best thing for the company.
Don't worry about looking good and stock price. Just execute like back in the old days.

When Just Do It meant F!ck it, we are doing it.

Also, let EH go. In year and half, he has proved that he does not have vision and drive to lead Nike to next level.

The brand is unpopular because old millionaire white portlanders get on stage to try to convince us that they are in touch with what the young, black, male, urban consumer wants. The leadership su-ks and is leading the company off a cliff. Good riddance

At Nike's peak there were about 7,000 WHQ employees, now I think there are 15,000. There are so many fake jobs!! And so many unnecessary added layers. Does every single team need their own Design Director - maybe there would be more cohesion if there were fewer DDs?? No one is working 40 hours a week! If Nike actually trimmed the fat with layoffs, it would help a lot. And HR should be replaced every 2 years, I'm convinced there's some corruption happening - they get paid to bring in visa workers.

You cant even speak the truth in any setting any more. Everyone is too afraid of microaggressions, or being accused of being difficult or contrarian to raise structural issues. It’s now an overly feminized and neutered culture that’s incapable of serving the athlete and getting big things done.

We barely manufacture anything in China. Get out of here tourist. 16% of footwear will be less than 10% by the end of the year.

@c6 what are you stupid? Fu-k the political parties. 100% tariffs on china or just the threat of the caused the stock to slide because we manufacture in china, and China is a huge market. Phil always wanted china because it's 2 billion feet. If you can see that it's because you're stupid, uneducated, or both.

Nike’s best days are behind it. Stock price never going back to $100. Sh---y entitled people now occupy leadership roles and ruined the once great culture. Politics take priority, no one stands up for doing what’s right for the business and consumer unless it directly helps them in an obvious way. The writing is on the wall here.

As step 1, can we get hotter models on Nike.com???
I mean seriously. Tf. You ever look at the models Lulu, Vuori, Skims, Gymshark uses? Men and women. Let’s get some hot people wearing out clothes god dmnit. I want to see a baddie in some Nike Pro when I visit the site. A dude in a Nike tank that if my wife told me she was leaving me for, I’d be like, yep I get it. Let’s make Nike hot again. I want to look at someone wearing our clothes and be like, he-l yeah, I want to look like that when I wear it, not, well sht, I hope it doesn’t look like that on me. Get that site traffic up!!

@c3 doesn’t he technically own a 3rd party LLC that officially holds his stock?

@c6

DJT was foreseeable, Nike Inc shoudl have known it was a risk after the first term, especially Jan6

Instead of preraparing and focusing on the fundamentals, JD tried to deceive investors via pitching nike as a tech company to get that sweet sweet tech stock evaluation. We buried billions in a useless tech org and nuked the fundemantals of our business by splurging on initiatives through vendors that only robbed Nike Inc.

Nike leadership got caught in this current climate with their pants down. as simple as that.

@a2

Ok. I’ll bite.

If Trump was not in office, name it… and provide your estimate for relative increase in stock price policy by policy. Take the current stock price, and tell us your estimate on how much each policy impacted it? For example, would you add $10 for tariffs? What else?

Are there republican policies that are preventing better assortments? Policies that are blocking us from improving search on .com? Is Trump single handedly keeping us from engaging with specialty running doors? Did Trump use a Time Machine and mandate that we don’t engage in high-stack ultra-cushion trail shoes ten years ago? If so, what was the value?

Total up your estimates, and let us know. Everyone, please weigh in on how much Trump specifically is keeping this business down.

And then, look in the mirror.

If you tie your happiness to what political party is in office, you’re going to allow yourself to be an angry person half of your life. Which will blind you to the actual issues at hand.

What happens to PHKs stock when he inevitably passes away? Serious question since it’s always mentioned how he controls the BOD.

@OP Historically speaking, Nike has had a great track record of increasing top line revenue…until recently. We can dig into the possible “ESG” issues later. For now, we can analyze the financial margins. The ”MacroTrends” site does a great job presenting margin information.

Not seeing support at $54. $53.74 was ”tested” at 13:56; closed at $53.76. Still seeing a lot of downward potential. Some ”shorts” may be getting a little nervous, thus causing a ”short squeeze”. 15:57 ”bearish engulfing”. Monday should be interesting.

This is right in my wheelhouse!
It’s genuinely concerning—$54 represents what investors have historically viewed as the absolute floor at this stage of the cycle. We’re hovering dangerously close to it right now.
If that key support breaks, expect the selling pressure to accelerate hard, with the next major downside target clustering around $38. 😳😳😳
