Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

May is going to be a bloodbath for a lot of Maverick folks

Layoffs happened last Monday. Not sure what the count was or what orgs were hit exactly but they happened. I know one person was in FED tech support, though. And a few other in I think SRO, whatever that org is. I'm sure ISG/CSG was hit like usual as well lol.

With the rollout of Maverick VERY quickly approaching, I feel confident that a lot of the "main" people involved with the project will be let go after "go live." I hope not but, I do feel their time is limited.

The original deadline and "due date/go live" date was early February and that was missed by 20 miles. JC sent out a heated email stating that it will not be pushed back again. He was PI---D.

I still don't think it will be remotely ready for the May release but, not my problem. As per usual, it will be forced upon the workforce half broken, or barely working and with little to no training; and the poor unfortunate souls who have to use these tools will be blamed for not knowing how to use them.

With an NDA project so close to the go-live date, it'd be ignorant and stupid to layoff anyone heavily involved but, once it rolls out into production? The job is "done" and those people are no longer "needed."

The "lead" of the entire project is a mo--n to put it nicely and well... NC better start putting a resume together. I would be anyways, had I been the main, or one of the main dawgs in this NDA.

I've only been at Dell for like 8 years but Maverick is easily one of the biggest CF projects of them all.

@j5

JC is so locked in right now, there is no way they'd back off.

@j5 No it isn't lmfao. I don't know the exact date of "go live" but it IS in May and likely early May.

Unless you are a manager or someone heavily involved, it wasn't pushed back a month. JC made it very veyr clear that it would NOT be pushed back again...

@bs Honestly, that's been one of the biggest questions for the 30 THOUSAND employees under this NDA lol...

There is nothing special about this project. It is not propriatery to Dell. It is not new technology. My only guess is that they (dell) was far behind in moving to a centralized cloud infrastructure compared to HP and Lenovo, and didn't want anyone to know that they haven't done any of that yet.

@OP this is what happens when they lay off all of the expert Americans and promote the incompetent Indian H1B employees. The whole thing will come crashing down in May. And then they’ll still only fire older Americans. Well F\/(& Dell!

Dell layoff order of precedence (its the same with most companies) looks like this (biggest to smallest):

Start of a new fiscal year, start of a new fiscal half, start of a new fiscal quarter

There are exceptions so it is not 100%, but the largest layoffs usually come in February followed by August.

They can’t put off Maverick indefinitely. Contracts with other company’s will expire and and knowing they have Dell over a barrel the cost of renewal would be exorbitant.

@bs the NDA is because we had to get Bain/Deloitte/Oracle to do the work for us.

One Dell Way will be implemented. This will put into motion "streamlining" the organization which will include layoffs. You don't implement it to help people. It's to get rid of people.

@c2 there might be some hidden sarcasm in that post. many ways to interpret
@bs the going theory is historical contracts and negotiating power dynamics of short term renewals until decommissions

why was an internal Dell project every under an NDA in the first place? We keep saying it was...but the question is...why? What was so secretive about it that if word got out, it would be devastating. Does anyone know? Would it be because it would lead to massive layoffs? What's the real reason.

Just stop with the constant fear mongering. I am the perfect demographic for Dell to layoff and I'm still here unfortunately. First it was the April Easter massacre, now it is going to happen in May. After that fizzles out are you going to move the goalpost to June?

Dell has a treasured history of large successful projects: doms (JC got a free t-shirt from hp), project gemini, project catalyst, project voyager, project lonestar, a long list of success stories, Mav will obviously be great too.

JC can throw temper tantrums all he wants. All he knows how to do is make stupid t-shirts. He had no clear strategy, no concrete plan, and insufficient resources to ensure project success. He just blames others for his failures, like all Dell execs. They're the ones who should be fired.
