Pinnacle Award

Hey, here’s an idea! How about we stop giving the pinnacle award to the same people year after year?! This is a massive expense for the company just to send the same people on a weeklong vacation every year.. and it’s terrible for morale. Why are they not checking the reports for previous years to see who has already received this? At the very least they should have a five-year waiting period before they could be nominated again… but to send them just about every single year is very frustrating, incredibly unfair, and lazy on the part of senior leadership responsible for selecting the pinnacle winners.

Been with the Bank over 20 years and only recently did I hear about this pinnacle award. Some LOB gets so many benefits. My group goes to Christmas lunch and I pay for my own meal.

@mf - it's an annual "performance" reward offered in U.S. Consumer/Retail Banking and also Business Banking.

Essentially, "top" performers (based on LOB metric parameters) are awarded an offsite trip (some years spouses included, but not always if budget needs to be cut) to some reasonably affordable resort property somewhere in the USA.

Over 2 days, attendees get fed banquet food (again, varying degrees of fanciness, depending on the year and expenses), have to listen to 1 or 2 "leadership" or "business content" lectures to justify the business expense, so it doesn't look too glitzy or spendy for The Precious Shareholders or the IRS.

The rest of the day can be spent golfing, spa'ing or sitting around chatting up your boss.

Oh, and they get the token lucite trophy and a photo with the group head (Dean or designate).

Bo-m. Over and out. Mic drop.

I’ve never heard of the pinnacle award - I’ve worked here for 10 years. Can someone tell me what it is?

@bg if you’re talking about participation prizes, then the mere fact they go on a paid vacation with their spouse every single year for doing their job is the epitome of a participation prize haha!

Not sure about you, but I’ve been doing the job of three people for 2+ years now… only the people that have plenty of time to brown nose end up on the manager’s radar, which is exactly why it’s reasonable to suggest that leaders are not digging in enough and putting in enough effort to justify sending the same people every single year.

@bw sorry you’re unable to comprehend or read written English, but that is your problem. Everything stated in this post is clear with the exception of maybe one or two typos, but that’s not uncommon on social media platforms. You seem super triggered by a reasonable concern… perhaps if you wipe that little smudge of brown off your nose you’ll find it easier to comprehend what you’re reading.

@bg
I’m the original poster and I’m not even worried about being selected. Not because I don’t feel like I’m a hard worker, but because it is obnoxious to watch the same people get awarded this year after year simply because leaders are too lazy to pull reports that will clearly show them who went in recent/previous years. At some point, we’re just giving of the same 50 individuals and their spouses an annual paid vacation and the whole concept of the award program falls flat and becomes irrelevant to the rest of the org. Meanwhile, they’re pinching pennies to give everyone a cookie during an employee appreciation week.

Associates see this and it’s a pain point that leads to complaints and employee dissatisfaction.

Sorry, in Grown Up Land we don't offer participation prizes. The people who do the work get the reward, whether it's for 20 years in a row or only once or twice in an entire career.

Unfair? Maybe corporate America isn't for you.
